COSkinnyGirl 0 Posted March 24, 2008 Hi everyone... Is anyone able to eat sushi post band? It is one of my favorite foods and I read that it is something I should stay away from. I haven't been banded yet. My nutrition counseling is tomorrow and then I should be able to get scheduled... Thanks...
Gone4Now 4 Posted March 24, 2008 I love sushi! Unfortunately, after I was banded I tried it once and never again. That was several months ago, though, and I'm not sure about trying it now. It was just hard to chew, and by the time I was done chewing it and chewing...and chewing it even more, it was mushy and gross. Not chewing it was a big mistake, too, since it just came right back up, which was also gross! I have just marked it off my list and been happy to lose the weight without sushi! Good luck to you! :crying:

KarenG. 0 Posted March 24, 2008 Depends on how much you love raw fish. I eat sashimi all the time OR I get a maki roll without rice and ask for soybean paper and have no problems that way. The rice and the seaweed can be problematic for me personally but some people can handle it.
lady lana 2 Posted March 24, 2008 I love sushi, i am one year out and can't eat it, I tried it right after banding and thought i was fine, took it slow, small pieces and everything...didn't sit well...then i realized after a few months, that rice is not my friend...I have no probs with sashimi, but no can do cuz of the rice, but totally worth missing out on sushi to be thinner...good luck to you! AlysonRR 0 Posted March 24, 2008 Even with mild restriction I haven't found sushi goes down particularly easily. I can eat it, a piece or two, but it just doesn't feel right. I eat sashimi and I pick out the fillings of maki, but the rice and seaweed just don't taste particularly good. I haven't PBd or gotten stuck, but some foods just don't feel right. It's weird. I absolutely loved eating sushi and bread and Pasta, etc. But after banding I'm just not that interested. Really. It's amazing. I wouldn't worry about how your eating might have to change. You might find that your tastes are completely different after banding. If sushi moves down in your preferences, something else will move up to take it's place. COSkinnyGirl 0 Posted March 24, 2008 It is funny... That is actually what I am scared of most. I have such a hard time getting my arms around the fact that I might not WANT to eat those things. I agree with everyone here, the sacrafice is worth being thin. I am bummed sushi is something that might likely be a problem, but I am deathly afraid of just not be able to eat normally I guess. lovekatz1975 1 Posted March 24, 2008 I eat california rolls with no problem. Only time I have a problem is if the rice is really mushy, it works better for me when the rice is firmer.

BensonRN 0 Posted April 7, 2008 I ate sushi today spicy tuna, so far so good. No problems. I notice though sometimes I can eat the same thigs and sometimes it goes down well and other times it doesnt. I just take the first few bites slow and see how it goes. RUBALCAVA2004 0 Posted April 7, 2008 WHAT IS SASHIMI? CAN U ORDER IT AT A SUSHI PLACE??
juliegeraci 7 Posted April 7, 2008 You order it at the sushi restraunt. I order Maguro (tuna) and Hamachi (yellow tail). Its raw fish. Very high in Protein and soft for the band. I typically order it with a side of rice. So when I take a bite of it with the rice it is just like sushi but goes down easier. That is how I eat at Japanese restraunts. lillysmom 0 Posted April 9, 2008 I have eaten sushi fine up until now. I was banded in Dec. I even had it after my first fill, I ate 3 pieces and was fine. I only had a 1/2 cc fill though. I just had my second fill yesterday and am interested to see if I will be able to still eat it.
mbanja 1 Posted April 9, 2008 I am very very tight and have been avoiding it for fear of getting stuck. Two nights ago my family wanted to try a new sushi/chinese restaurant and I just couldn't resist. I have problems with past and rice getting stuck so I do avoid them but the sushi (shrimp tempura roll) went down fine. I cut it into very small bites and chewed the heck out of it. Man was it wonderful!!!! I had really been missing it. I enjoyed it so much I went back the next day and got it for take out!
