I need support

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone...i just need a moment to reflect on my weight loss and hopefully get some support and feedback...its been 5 months since my surgery and i feel like i have been losing weight but at a snail pace....i have run into my usual routine which i thought i was gonna give up once i had the surgery...i have lost 35 lbs so far...i just feel like i could have done more and i didnt, there are alot of moments that i overeat, i eat bad things and then there are moments that i eat great and exercise, i guess i just feel like i have let myself down because i made a promise to myself to be a certain weight at this time and change my habits by this date and i haven't. this year has started out rough for me personally but physically i have let myself down, i heard a comment the other day from someone i love that said 'thats all you lost, you could have done that without surgery'. in a way i feel maybe i could have, i just need reassurance from other people that have gone through this struggle and weight loss, but have overcome it, we have all gone through this thats why we are where we are, i just need to get over my habits. Please help! Thanks

U know I haven't had my sug. yet, when was the last time you had a fill? You have to set small goals post them up and check them off as you meet them. Like every monday & tuesday i'm going to workout for an hour, and every thursday i'm going to walk outside or something like that. I'm sure it's hard but do u have support from your family and friends because if they are tempting you with the things that u ate that got the weight on in the first place that's not good. You need a buddy to go workout with, someone that is going to check in with you and say hey what did u eat today... and don't lie.... lol.and you are honest enough to tell them. You are further than I am because you have had it done. At least you havent gained any back.... keep your head up and put your goal in your face...

LovemyBand,

You really need to refocus. You are very young and you will still take other peoples thoughts to heart and you shouldn't. Those other people are the ones who has helped us grow the size that we are/were without there knowledge besides ourselves, or course.

You DO NOT want to wait until you start having major problems with your health down the road. You need to nip it NOW and become the healthy person that you can be.

I have completely did a 360 on my food choices and have become addicted to weight lifting and cardio. I am 43 yrs. of age and I only wished that I could have done this along time ago with my life instead of being called fatty four eyes while growing up and hating myself all my life because of how ugly I felt. Very ugly on the outside and very depressed on the inside .

I found out my down falls on food and I have completely stayed away from them. I do have addictions with some foods and even though I haven't eaten them since the end of 2005, the smell of those foods still knock me for a loop.

You really want to take charge of your own life and only have support from others. If they are not willing to support you then you do not need to be around them.

If you are in need of anything on a positive note and have questions please email me. I am an old timer as far as the band 11/10/2005. My starting weight was 251 lbs. and I am now 142 and have been holding that since July 25, 2006.

We have had enough negativity in our life and we don't need anymore.

Josephine

35 lbs in 5 months is really exceptional. That's nearly 2 lbs per week. To the person you love who said "you could have done that without surgery", to me the point of the band isn't actually to lose weight. It's to not gain when we fall off the wagon, and to not gain once we make it to goal. It's a long term solution to a long term problem.

If you keep up with the pace you are going. In 5 more months you will lose another 35 lbs. At a "snails pace" You would have lost 70 lbs in 10 months. That is amazing! And with your band you will be able to keep the weight off much easier than without the surgery. You are doing great. Don't lose the faith in yourself. We are here for you.

Remember the band is for slower weightloss, you are right on the average so that is great. Also the slower the weight comes off the more likely your skin will react better as well. We all want instant results, but honestly we did not put this weight on overnight, nor will it come off over night.

With all of that being said, I believe that staying the course and working your butt off is the answer for the large weight loss that you will see with the BAND. I know that I am not the norm here, I have lost a trememndous amount of weight in a short time, and it is becuase I want it so bad, that I do not deter from the healthy eating nor do I stop pushing my butt harder at the gym. This has all paid off in a really big way for me.

You are doing great, so do not beat up on yourself too badly. We all have had days I am sure where we ate something that we said wow perhaps I could have eaten better, but you are not gaining back any weight so that is why you were banded to begin with.

Remember "Steady wins the race" You will do it, just remain focused.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
