Do/Did they weigh you with clothes on?

Recommended Posts

Hi all! Sorry if this has been asked before, but if I do a search on "weigh" I'm sure everything will come up! Anyway, I was wondering: when you went to the surgeon/doctor for the first time (the weight they give to the insurance company), did they keep your clothes on? What about shoes? I'm not quite 225 yet (for my 40 BMI) and was wondering if the clothes can help me "gain" weight a bit.

Thanks!

PS. I will be seeing Dr. Bertha in Jersey. Any direct info on him would be great! :)

I was weighed in clothes but no shoes. My nurse did say, "Oh good, you aren't wearing jeans!" (For whatever that's worth...) I drank 32 oz of Fluid before my weigh in to be sure to have a BMI of 40, and it worked for me. :-)

Good Luck!

Thanks everyone! I'm just so nervous that the weights will fall off or the roll of quarters will break, and I'll look like an idiot!:laugh::) Ahh, I'll just tell him I came back from Atlantic City...which actually won't be a lie!!!!! :)

You know how if you go to your gyno or pcp they take subtract about 5lbs or so for clothes? They don't do that, do they?

I always keep my shoes on at my doctor's office. It sounds like the surgeon's offices don't do that ... I had planned to wear my running shoes. They weigh 3 lb just by themselves!

Yep, clothes on, shoes off.

They WANT your BMI to qualify you, esp if you are close, so don't worry, they won't be looking for reasons to subtract poundage.

My surgeons office weighed me with clothes AND shoes. I think it must depend on your surgeon's office, if they don't tell you to take them off, don't ask and just hop on the scale and get weighed.

That's exactly what they did to me. I was like should i take my shoes off and all of the xtra stuff that add's weight and she said naaa its fine.. and they did not subtract anything.. and I had on jeans a sweatshirt and timberland boots...lol.. i was like wow i know that was about 8 or 10 xtra pounds but whatever....

I knew I was over the 40 BMI so I wore a skirt and thongs to my consult lol. But they didn't have me take anything off for the weigh in. Except they had me take my jacket off when they took the before photos.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
