Dr. Miles or Dr. Schmitt patients

Recommended Posts

Hello Everyone.

I am a newbie. Banded on 8/11/09 by Dr Miles. Had to stay overnight due to Medicare. I am doing well with only minor pain every now and again. Haven't had to take anything for the pain yet. Staples come out tomorrow.

I want to thank Shawna for agreeing to be my Angel mentor. It makes me feel stronger to know I have someone that will reach out if needed.

I cannot believe that I haven't wanted a diet cola at all since giving them up. I was so addicted to them. Water with crystal lite seems to be satisfying me for now.

As soon as I figure out how to put all the "pretties" on here, I'll get mine up.:D

welcome and congratulations. i was a big diet dew and sweet tea fan but do not miss either one of them and am 7 weeks out from being banded. Good luck

Thanks for the welcome Kaninag. I went back and read a lot of the old posts and I am now beginning to feel like I know some of you. I am looking forward to getting support/advice from all of you that are ahead of me. Someday, maybe we can meet at group. Have a safe day.:D

I have a question: I am on full-liquids and can have yogurt w/o chucks. My poor hubby has brought home two different kinds. The yoplait smooth is nice but way too high in everything. The other is okay on the label but it is so bitter! Could someone just tell me a brandname of plain yogurt to buy? I hate to keep buying it and can't eat it or won't eat it. I love yogurt and think it will probably save me often when the going gets tough or something.

Got my staples out today! When Tracie weighed me, I had lost 17.5 pounds in one week. I told her that she was wrong and made her do it all over again. I couldn't believe it. I have never ever lost that much weight in a month..much less a week.

I ask about moving to a soft diet but doc said NO. Oh well, I'll be there sooner or later.

they make several new yogurts that are like cheesecake flavored, orangecream flavored and they dont have chunks in them. Hope this helps!

Good Morning Everyone. I am sending you a wish for a good day, one that is complete in every way possible. At day's end, I hope you can say to yourself "It's been a good day".

I was sorta depressed when I left Dr Miles yesterday. He made me feel that he didn't believe I would be successful. I got up this morning and decided to look to my own goals, be happy, and just shake off the feelings I had yesterday after seeing him.

Maybe he was having a hard day...who knows.

Time to go get a Protein shake....see you later.

Protein is def important and youre not going to get that from a one a day vit..is that what you meant by one a day?

You'll start feeling really fatigued if you dont get your protein in...SO you could try the Protein Shots from Walmart OR I got a recipe from Veronica on a choc Peanut Butter Protein Shake that is AWESOME!!!!

1/2 fat free milk

1cup of ice

1scoop of vanilla protein mix

1pack of sugar free or low sugar swiss miss chocolate mix

1 tablespoon of peanut butter (I add a little extra)

3 packs of splenda BLEND WELL!!

These are so good my husband likes to have them for breakfast!

Get your protein girl it will make you feel better!!

I can already tell how important the Protein Shakes are to us. The decrease in energy is evident when I don't get in mine.

I am going to try Kaninag's recipe for a variety shake. Right now, I'm on plain vanilla but my hubby puts a banana in his shake. He doesn't need to lose weight but he likes the shakes anyway. There are several people in my church that had the surgery and they use some of the different flavored shakes but I purchased the Vanilla b/c you can always add a flavor. As Kaninag said.....get your protein.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
