Hello all

I'm new to the group but not new to being overweight. I checked my BMI the other day and it was 50. Yeah, really high. I had a girl on the phone from a Lap Band clinic and she was sure I was doing it wrong. Well I've very short and pretty fat

Ok besides that, is there anyone here from Canada as well? I hear great things on here about insurance covering costs of the band and I was just wondering if anyone from Canada has tried getting it covered by their provincial health care or other insurance? Maybe out of pocket if so, how much?

Hi and welcome to LBT! You might have better luck with your insurance questions if you post them in the insurance forum.

I am from Canada. There is not any coverage at all, including your private health insurance. I paid $16,000. Save all your receipts and you get about $3000 back from income tax. Good luck.

Hi, I am new to this but have had no luck getting coverage either by private insurance or on Health Care...I am looking at paying to get it done in Mexico (did check out Ontario)...

I am new to this forum too, but also from Canada (BC). I went to Mexico and had my lapband from Dr. Ortiz almost 2 weeks ago. I was so impressed. I did not attempt to go through any insurance however, I have just been surveyed by Health Canada and they asked me to write a letter. I will be going to Calgary for my fills.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
