60 hours post op and still lots of pain

Recommended Posts

My sister and I were banded the same day (Wed) and she hurts a lot too, in fact she says that this lap band surgery is much worse than her total hip was as far as pain goes, but I hear a lot of people say they were "just uncomfortable" or that their pain was mild to moderate. Well the two of us are living one hour at a time in pretty bad pain. I would say the gas pain up in my shoulders is about equal to the pain coming from the diaphram and access port areas. I also had a hiatal hernia repaired at the same time but I do not know how much of a role that might be playing pain wise. We have been up walking around about once every 90 minutes or less, and we have no trouble drinking fluids at all. It hurts to take a deep breath or to use any ab muscles to get up or down, but even sitting still hurts like pluresy or something similar. I don't hurt as much as I did when I first got home, but when I hear about people going back to desk work 3 days post op it makes me worry a bit. When I sort of hiccup it hurts in my shoulders so bad I feel I might pass out. Any ideas on speeding up getting the co2 out of the body besides walking?

Please tell us we can expect day 3 (tomorrow) to be significantly better?

I was in hell the first week after being banded, and then had complications for a few weeks afterwards. I used to sit in the recliner with my knees up to my chest with a heating pad on my abdomen and a pillow on top of the that. I also had the hernia repaired, and never even knew I had one. The gas was painful, and I couldn't get it out, not from walking, the gas x, or the heating pad. I was miserable

I took the serious pain pills at night and I was knocked out for 15 hours!! That was the only serious rest I got.

My doc had me on Clear liquids for longer than most, and I couldn't get those down cleanly either, I was a mess.

But, it does eventually improve, ever so slowly. Now I am almost 3 months out and would do it all over again.

My chest felt like an elephant was sitting on it and the left shoulder pain is normal ( and yes, hurts). I had a hernia repaired as well, maybe we get more swelling as a result?

Day four and five got better for me. I think time and movement is the best that you can do for the gas. I also tried a heating pad, helped a little.

I had very little appetite and had had to force myself to drink. I think I got a little dehydrated at the hospital. My surgery was late aft, so I had nothing to drink that whole day and then after surgery, I was only able to drink a little at a time. So it's good you are able to drink and stay hydrated.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
