Three days postop, my mom's memorial service

Recommended Posts

Well here I am, just banded on Wendsday. Tomorrow morning my family and I leave for a 14 hour car trip. My mother passed away in December and due to circumstances we had to wait until now for a memorial service. I am very stressed and nervous. First of all, as I'm sure you all know, there is no better excuse to eat garbage than when on the road. Now combine that with emotional eating and I'm in trouble. Let's also throw on top of it the Easter bbq my family is having while we are in town. I'm already feeling very hungry and worry about how I'll do with this liquid thing during all of this. I could really use some words of support as I deal with this. Thanks

First, I would make sure I am prepared with shakes, liquids etc that you are allowed to have.

Second, please remember that you just had surgery and you need to heal. Your stomach has sutures to hold the band and digesting solid food requires your stomach to work harder. Your Dr. put you on liquids for a good reason.

I was hungry, too but I was scared "straight" about eating the right foods because I wanted my band to heal.

Sticking with a lot of Protein will help keep you satisfied. If you drink Protein every three hours from 8 am to 8pm, that should help.

First of all sorry for the loss of your Mom ((Hugs))..

Since you have just been banded it is very important for your stomach to heal - this is the reason for the liquid diet - you don't want to distrub the stiches (tummy around the band) Please Please do not eat regular food - you will just be setting yourself up for problems - i.e. band slipping and your Mom would not want you back in the hospital. She would be happy that you have done something for yourself - that you have taken control of your life and will extend your years by shedding your excess weight. Truly the food is not going to comfort you - it is going to hurt you...

You don't say what your doc's eating plan is - but please follow it - Take your Soups - Protein drinks - Water bottle with you. If this is a secert - just say that you are too upset to eat.

Again - sorry for your loss, I understand I lost my Mom at 15 and my stepmom at 36 - so I understand your pain - You and your family will be in my prayers..

My doctor has me on full liquids until wednesday and then soft for a week. I defanitely won't eat anything I shouldn't. I'm too scared of hurting myself. It is just very hard to do these things that would normally revolve around food. Especially at such a tough time. Maybe I should invest in nose clips so I can't smell the burgers and fries my people will be hogging down in the car  My whole family knows about the surgery and are very supportive and already asking what they should have in the house for me while were there. It should be interesting.

Tell them not to pig out on burgers & fires in the car - that will help tons.

Now when I watch people eat like I use to - it sorta makes me sick to see people stuffing their faces with all that unhealthy foods.. This will be a learning experience for you - we must change our thought pattern - food isn't our friend - it's the devil - the band is a lifetime lifestyle change -

Im so sorry for your loss..... but get Isopure at GNC, it has 40 grams of protien and comes in a variety of flavors. They have drinks already made up and I have tried several this week while on my pre-op diet. They are very good and really do fill you up. Also, they are buy one and get one 50% off. I paid $15 for 4 bottles. Sip on one or two throughout the day and you should be good. Good luck.

I'm very sorry about your loss... this will be a hard time for you, especially if you're an emotional eater. I lost my mum 13 years ago, dad 9 years ago and my sister 5 years ago so I know how hard it is to stay on track when the emotions are going rampant. Just remember that you did this to get healthy and if feeling emotional, go for a walk or do something else to release that energy. If all else fails, log on here and talk to people. Good luck and my thoughts are with you through this time. xx

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
