OMG!! Just ate 5 french fries and a bite of fish

Recommended Posts

I cannot believe I just did that - ate 5 fries and a bite of fish. I am two weeks post op and was fully intending on drinking a shake. I do have that by my side right now, but I cannot believe what I felt in that moment. It was as though as I had not eaten before!! Has this happened to anyone else? I will stay out of the kitchen that's for sure! Hopefully my DH will be home shortly and he can tend to his own dinner! Nothing got stuck or feels like it did anyway. Boy, do I have a loonnnggg way to go with learning more new habits!! Thanks for listening!

Oh, I remember sneeking my first bite of food...8 days post surgery. It was only a few bites of chicken breast, but it was the best chicken ever! I chewed it forever. I did confess to my Dr., but he just asked how the band felt after I ate the chicken.

ok, so you messed up ... that doesnt mean you can blow the rest of your post op diet.

the post op diet is VERY IMPORTANT for the long term health of your band and the anchoring of it on you stomach.

please please PLEASE dont think that you felt fine that you can continue with solids.

I wouldnt stress about it. A week after my surgery I confessed to my surgeon that I had eaten scrambled eggs and cottage cheese. All he asked was if it stayed down okay. I said yes and he gave me the go ahead to eat regular foods. I wouldnt even worry about it!

Thanks for the advice! I was just astounded at myself and couldn't believe that happened. Anyway, I am right back on track and plan on staying this way.

I am on day 2 post-op. I am, of course, on liquids. My doctor's diet consists of eating soft boiled eggs, scrambled eggs, cottage cheese, canned fruit and baked potato on day 8. And soft baked fish, small amount of Pasta, rice,on day 14. So, eating the french fries and a bite of fish after 2 weeks, are within my surgeon's guidelines.... So, don't worry.

i'm 2 and a half weeks post op and I eat EVERYTHING except for bread, Pasta and rice. doc told me that as long as i chew really well, then nothing is off limits after 2 weeks as long as it agrees with me. I wouldn't worry - just try to stick to healthy food.

I'm now 9 days out - Today at lunch I had 1.5 oz teriyaki chicken and about 1/4 c macaroni salad. (My Doctors instructions are Protein only until 80% of your weight is lost). As you can see I'm not doing it.

My rational is that this is still far less than I used to eat. I know my body has to go through an adjustment period - I am walking about 1.5 miles every other day, but I am getting discouraged because I've only lost 2 lbs post op....but lost 20 lbs doing a month of pre-op. I know it will come off eventually but am happy to now be at 220 instead of 242.

Just curious - your doc said protien "only" meaning nothing else until 80% of all your weight is gone. It is so interesting how the docs are so different. I do high Protein but a balanced diet as well including healthy carbs and very little fat. I eat protein first, then the veggies and will still have some rice, potato - very little if at all and not every meal. Oh, can't forget my dairy and fruit. Amazing the differences. Good luck!

Yeah it is interesting to see the differences between doctors. It could have something to do with the method of inserting the lapband (i.e. number of internal stitches) but I honestly have no idea. My doctor's diet consisted of:

2 weeks liquid

2 weeks puree (where I am now)

1 week soft

Starting six weeks post op I can eat my regular diet, but with a concentration on eating Proteins first.

I've had so many temptations and frustrations. Especially because I feel like time is slowing down and the days drag on and on. But I just have to remember that the food isn't going anywhere and will be there when I am six weeks post op. So I'll just sit here and have my applesauce until then.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
