Hey!

I'm considering the lap band, and anything you have to say is really useful for me. I would really love it if you could tell me how you managed the payment (if paid out of pocket). I'm on a fixed income and 16000 would be a huge hardship for me. Please let me know how you are managing the finances and whether you thought it was do-able.

Dr. Miller seems like the one to go with from all the talk! That's really helpful, thanks:)

Hi,

Sorry for the cross posting but I just realized that there is a section specific Canada, so I'm reposting hoping someone in here can help me with the decision.

I'm planning on getting banded and I decided to go for the private route. After doing the research it seems it's between the following people:

1- Dr. Pierre Leclerc at Westmount Square Surgical Center.

2- Dr. Pierre-Yves Garneau at Rockland MD.

3- Dr. Steven Miller at SPA Diva Medical.

There is also Dr. Nicholas Christou who seems to be really good. But he's charging close to $18000 while the three others are all around $16000.

Any positive/negative experience with any of the above docs? Sharing your experience with me is greatly appreciate as it will help me tremendously in choosing my surgeon.

Thanks!

Hey Sunflower,

I just had my surgery September 15th 2011 at Rockland MD Surgery Center, by Dr. Pierre-Yves Garneau. I really did like the experience, but I sadly had a complication. Everything went well, the wounds healed well. But 3 weeks after the surgery, I had a complication. My body is rejecting the tube linking the band to the port is getting out by one of the wound. So I just had another surgery 2 days ago to remove the infected part of the tube, by the same doctor.

I am REALLY hoping that I will not lose my band because of that complication... Right now I just removed the band aid that was on it.. and I am worried that it's not as healed as it should be.

Hopefully everything will be okay soon....

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
