Richmond Kaiser anyone?

Recommended Posts

I had my psych eval on Tuesday and I go back on April 15th for my orientation class, its a 5 1/2 hour class. Just wondering if anyone out there has gone thru kaiser richmond and could let me know what to expect?

Hi ella,

I haven't been banded yet but just had my seminar last night. I'm in central CA and will be sent to Richmond for surgery, if approved. We're not sure how much of the pre-op stuff I can do here vs. going over to Richmond to do it. They do open bypass in the city an hour from me so they are thinking that we can do all of the pre-op evaluations and classes and then send me up for surgeon meetings and such. We'll see what happens with it.

Sorry, I can't help with your question. I'm in the same lack-of-information boat you are!

Ella Bella - I went through the Kaiser program in SSF but there is a person on this board going by the tag Warrior that has just gotten her surgery date for Richmond. Try and get ahold of her. She will be the best person to tell you the way things are in Richmond.

I have been working the Kiaser Richmond program since my referral in Sept. and just got may date for May 20 - now it is all crazy tons of appt.s classes and tests. The first part was slow with them but once you are in the system they have been pretty good. What specific things are you thinking about?

There's a thread on here under pre-op with a bunch of Kaiser Richmond ladies! I'm still early pre-op but there are people days, weeks and months post-op. Our thread is about 115 pages now, so there's a wealth of information!

Heather's got it exactly right! Our forum for Kaiser Richmond has been going since 2008 and you will find all kinds of pre-and post-op info specific to the Richmond program! http://www.lapbandtalk.com/f84/kaiser-richmond-pre-op-82492/

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
