Hello to all!

Obviously I am new to the forum. I do not currently have a gastric band; however, today I began the process by getting a surgeon referral from my PCP. I have been reading these forums for quite awhile now attempting to gain as much knowledge as possible about the procedure prior to making any decisions, and finally came to the conclusion that this is something I must do.

So, a little history on my situation and the logic behind my decision. I'm a male, 35 years old with a beautiful wife and 4 wonderful children. I have had weight issues my entire life (thanks Mom and Dad) however was able to manage rather well, and stayed in very good shape in my twenties thanks to the Marine Corps. However; since separating 5 years ago the struggles have returned and are more complicated by current lifestyle. I'm an engineer, so I spend all day sitting on my rump in front of a computer, and then don't exercise enough to compensate. I have also begun to develop weight related issues to include HBP, wacky cholesterol levels, and I am showing signs of being pre-diabetic. All conditions which run rampant in my gene pool.

I was able to loose 45 pounds last year though a nutrition program (6 week body makeover, effective but like eating card board) and exercise; however have since gained it back after transitioning off the program. I can't stand it any longer, and have decided it is time to make a drastic change so that I can mitigate the issues that are sure to compound if I continue down the path I currently travel.

I want to be here to watch my children graduate, to give my daughters away on their wedding day, and to share life’s future experiences with my wife. All my research has helped me decide the band is the tool I need to make a change for the better.

I look forward to sharing this experience with you all, and drawing upon your knowledge and support as things progress.

Brian

I got banded on March 4 and love it! I am feeling almost completely recovered from the surgery and still have a little bit of restriction. I wish you luck on your journey! If you need any help, suggestions or encouragement, this is the place. SS

Welcome Brian! I hope your Quest for the band to be a quick and easily accomplished one!

I LOVE my band! I have control of my eating back, I no longer feel like I am 67 as opposed to 47! When I was banded I was taking 2 different meds for high blood pressure, one for high blood sugar, and yet another for high cholesterol, I had anti-inflamatories for painful knee joints---it was ridiculous! Since banding, I no longer take a single prescription medication! I have no joint pain, I can run and play with my grandkids, and since they are so young---they do not ever remember me being that fat!!! My 3 yr old granddaughter wants to know who is with her Papa in pictures, she does not believe it is me!

I can walk into a room without being self concious. I can sit in any chair, climb any ladder....and even sit on my DH's lap without concern.

Soon you will have your own list-----they say that the band is just a tool, and it is, you DO have to use your head, and work with it. But a shovel is just a tool, and think how much easier it makes digging a hole-----you will love the help!

Once again---welcome!

Kat

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
