There can be a bit of a learning curve with the band. Some people learn faster than others.

We must change habits, like eating slower and that can take awhile to retrain ourselves of habits we've had for many years.

Getting fills is not an exact science. We sometimes end up with more than we need, become too tight and need to have it adjusted. some people also ask for agressive fills because that suits them better or because they believe they will lose weight faster or because a loved one or friend is expecting them to lose weight faster.

I have had reasonable restriction and do not vomit ( so far), it could happen to me if I forget to eat slowly. I prefer to have a looser restriction and not have to worry about vomiting and so I can eat healthy foods that I enjoy, like apples.

the band works by restricting our food, but sometimes we try to get down a food that we know we shouldn't and the band reminds us it's there and send the food back where it came. Lesson learned!

This is why you'll hear people say it's only a tool and you have to do some of the work. so there are some personal choices that you can make to help some of these issues. You have less choice right after surgery as it might not be possible to control excess surgery swelling around the band that makes us tight and food gets stuck. That is a temporary thing.

I wish you luck with your decision.

That Makes Complete Sense And I Was Thinking That Mabey They Were Not Eating Correctly Or Eating The Wrong Foods. Some People I Have Talked To Said They Preferred Gb Because They Felt Having The Dumping Syndrome Would Remind You To Not Eat The Wrong Foods. I Feel That The Band Does Pretty Much The Same Thing. Thanks For Ur Help!

You also have to remember that there are hundreds of people out there who never come online and never have any problems. ppl tend to post when they need advice or help...or sometimes just need to vent. This board is for support.

I was banded Jan 24 and have no problems with vomitting or diarrhea or any complications at all. My worst complication is that I am still able to eat all those foods that got me to this weight, but I just can't eat as much as I could before. I am still having issues with eating correctly when I know that those bad foods are not making me sick.

I'm a very new bandster - just two days - but I haven't needed any pain medication and haven't had any pain in the shoulders as I was told could happen.

I was banded on 3/5 and have had no problems. My doctor even has a fairly aggressive eating plan compared to what I've read from others and I got to go to thickened liquids on day 3 after surgery and mushie foods after 1 week. I'm still on a 'if you can smash it, you can eat it' diet which is just fine. I get plenty of fish, cooked veggies, Beans, etc. I've lost 16 lbs so far! I get hungry about every 3 hours but as long as I have a small Protein type of snack I am good to go. Laughing Cow cheese is a great, rich tasting snack.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
