exercise questions

Recommended Posts

I am having surg. on the 25th. I am a fit fat guy. I exercise regularly and at a fairly high level i.e. I road my bike for approx 2 hours and climbed 2000 vertical feet on three separate occasions since monday... the only reason I am saying this is I am worried about getting back to this type/level of performance... I don't want to have to give up endurance sports... do I need to be worried... also worried about Water intake and occasionally food for long rides

hi chl,

you will have no problem with endurance sports once you are healed and cleared by your surgeon. you may need to take it easy for a bit, but it shouldnt really impact you that much.

Water and food shouldnt be an issue once you are healed and on solids.

welcome to LBT

(i moved your post to the exercise thread)

I don't see JC posting on here lately. He is REALLY into exercise. He would be a good person to talk to. Maybe you could find him by doing a user search.

I know he posts in the "Has anyone taken up bicycling" thread

chl:

You might notice that you have an issue with energy the first few weeks after surgery. I'm pretty sure that it has to do with your body sending alot of energy to the healing parts and ignoring the rest of you. It comes back after about a month or so. I have more energy now than I've had in 20 years! Yippee!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
