banded 3-14-08; doing great(I think)

Recommended Posts

I just joined this forum today, have been reading it for months. Got banded March 14, 08. I'm still on liquids and get to eat pudding tomorrow. I am very excited. My pain has been minimal, and I have not been hungry once. I have lost 10 pounds. I think because my body is eating itself. All I have had is Jello, popcicles, and juice. No nausia and moving around pretty good. I don't really know all the banding lingo, but I am looking forward to getting back to the real me that I see in my mind, not the mirror. :wink2:

I was banded on the 15th March so I am 5 days out and I the pain is just starting to ease. I was filled in surgery, I wasn't asked about this but when I come round after the op, they said they had put 3mls in to get me started??? I am ok though managing the liquid diet ok.

Hey! I was banded on march 14th as well and yes the pain is finally going a way.. I have lost 7lbs... I have not felt hungry until yesterday...I do not like the Protein Shakes taht much but I know I need them to heal. :thumbup:It's awesome that you've lost 10 lbs since being banded less than 1 week ago. I was banded last Friday as well. I haven't been that lucky yet. I have only lost 4.5 lbs since having the band. Best of luck with the new you! :wink2:

I start full liquids today, yea! It's early still, and I haven't eaten anything yet. All day yesterday I felt like I had a turkey sitting in my gut. I just don't feel hungry yet, but I know my body needs some calories. I don't drink Protein Shakes or anything, don't like them at all or any dairy drinks. I go to my post-op on monday. I have a little soreness around the incisions, a little in my shoulder, a lot of belly rumbles throughout the day, but mostly pretty good. I don't dwell on the decision. I did it, so I will keep thinking of how great I'm going to feel. I was self-pay.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
