My first real "STUCK!"

Recommended Posts

I had my first fill on March 7th. It was 4.6cc, and afterwards I wondered if that was too much, but didn't seem to be having much trouble getting things down.. But yesterday.... OMG! I had my first REAL "stuck" experience! Let me tell you, it's something I hope I don't have to go through again!! I've read all about it and thought I knew what to expect, but until it happens, you really can't begin to imagine it. In a panic, I tried to drink Water, which only made it worse. What surprised me was that I expected to feel sick but the instant it came back up, that awful feeling went away instantly.

I know it was my own fault- someone at work ordered in pizza for lunch and I thought "one piece won't hurt". And I felt like I was starving anyway, so I ate it like I used to- too fast. I sure ate dinner VERY slowly and too TINY bites!!

I was actually thinking (before yesterday) about asking for another fill because I didn't think I was restricted enough. Now I'm convinced that it's working, and I'm not quite ready for another one yet.

I guess this is something most of us will or have experienced but it sure is scary when it happens!!

Pat,

sorry you had to experience getting stuck, but it's pretty much inevitable for everyone.

you're right, drinking anything to 'wash it down' doesnt work (but sometimes it does help bring it up - with great force!!!!)

take care

Hi Pat, sorry you had that experience. I've been banded for 6 months now and I haven't had that experience yet, so I consider myself lucky. I'm pretty sure sooner or later I will, but I'm glad I haven't yet.

I think I've read that if you get stuck or PB, you should go on liquids for 24 hours to allow the irritation and swelling to go down. I hope you don't have to go through that again and good luck to you!

I also just had my first experience with being stuck. My surgery was 12/31 - almost 3 months now. I cant stop that feeling of gas in my chest. Does anything help to get rid of it?

My mom has an esphogeal stricture and has to drink small sips with her meals in order to get things to go down. Wonder why it doesn't come back up with the Water she is drinking? I guess everyone is different.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
