I have always heard that some people can't eat rice with the band--but, I can and do..that is until today. Went to lunch at a Mexican Resturant and had some rice. Everything was fine until 1-2 hours later. I started PBing-throwing up clear liquid..saliva. Called the Dr's office and they explained to me that the rice is swelling in my stomach causing me to not be able to swallow my saliva. So after being a bandster for 19 months, I am still learning! No more rice for me...and I think that this fill is going to be "it"!

I have noticed I have a problem with the rice, with the darker pieces in it (don't know the technical name for it) or rice that puffs up somewhat. Plain White Rice I am okay with as long as it is in a liquidy substance, not dry. For instance, chicken and Rice casserole, or in Soups.< /p>

Had problems 1 - 2 hours later?????

goodness Kelly! Is everything ok now?

Rice is a day by day thing for me... some days I can, some days I cant! One of my most horried PB's was on a rice meal. So when I do eat rice, I eat it with caution!

No rice for me with the band, ever. Even when I had an "unfill" when it slipped and I could pretty much eat anything.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
