Does Anyone Know About MUSC's New Program?

Recommended Posts

I know they just opened up a new center and was thinking of going there. Does anyone have any current info on them? If not, any good places with good Dr.'s near Charleston? I like MUSC's program because it entails all my insurance requirements, such as the nutritionist and Psych exam. Just wondering if anyone had experience with them.

You have SC Obesity Ctr at lexington hosp. I'm getting banded 5/13. Went to seminar on 3/3, had psych eval from one of their top psychs on 3/20, had pre-op class on 4/1. I am self-pay but based on how I've been treated so far, I highly recommend them. Lexington hosp is right off 26 coming in from charleston.

Hi,

My friend and I were both banded on June 10.

We had a very satisfactory experience with MUSC and Dr. Byrne and staff. You can't get more top notch I don't think. We are both 1 week out and doing great so far.

We are 50plus too.

Hi I was banded in Conway SC. There was a good doctor there named Dr. David Anderson I here he is in Greenville now. I don't think he's doing band surgeries there but I heard he was doing fills. I found him on the internet and the number to his new office is Carolina Surgical Associates 864-233-4349. You can give him a call let me know if he is indeed doing the fills as I am considering changing doctors.

My sister is strongly considering Dr. Byrne. I live in Ft. Worth and was banded last November 2007. I am so thankful I did. I've lost over 60lbs so far. Feeling more and more energetic. My sister and I both know that the quality and length of our lives depend on losing our weight. She is considering gastric bypass and lapband.

Everything I have read about Dr. Byrne is impressive. She told me that he prefers gastric by-pass instead. Did he indicate this procedure was preferrable for you? And if so, why did you choose Lap-band?

Any other thoughts about your experience would be so helpful.

Thanks.

I see Dr.K.Morgan at MUSC see is the best! They have sooooooo many support groups and classes you can take! My surgery is Sept 29 and it only took a month and half to get approval! Her staff is great. And if you want more info go to Bariatric Surgery Program all the info is there.

I am using MUSC for banding. My surgeon will be Dr. Baker, I have my first appt with her on 11/24/08. I have already been to the Nutrition class and psych eval. I am so ready for this. I was wondering if anyone has Tricare Standard. I know that they cover the band, just wondering how long for approval.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
