PBing and Sliming and Vomiting, Oh My.....

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone! I've been bouncing around this site for the past couple weeks, I have an appointment with a surgeon in 9 days and I'm super excited!! I've been reading a lot of threads and you all have inspired me so much!

HOWEVER, all this talk about PBing and Sliming and Vomiting is enough to make me want to reconsider. I have a very, very weak stomach and even the sight of people vomiting or even spitting can make me feel nautious.

What are your experiences like? Have they been as awful as some of them sound? Is having to deal with all of this worth it in the end?? I would love and appreciate any feedback,

Thanks!

Allison

I always hate vomit before too. Yes, I still think it's worth it!!!

You will learn very quickly to change your habits so that you don't eat too fast or eat the wrong thing. Basically you will do what you can to avoid the PB's.

Good luck!

I'm a pre-bander and I'm reading all these posts about PBing and Sliming and it's scaring me. About how many times do people PB and Slime in a given week?

It is kind of different than vomiting because you don't have the stomach acid - also no nausea (usually)

I have PB'd once ( got a black berry stuck) and it was about 6 weeks after banding. I did not chew it well enough or took too large a bite. I have not slimed. It wasn't like vomiting ( i hate to vomit). It just sort of came back up in a big burp.

Having these things a few times is probably to be expected, having these issues a lot can usually be controlled. If you allow your band to stay too tight after a fill or forget to eat slow or forget to take smalll bites than it will happen more often.

Taking small bites, chewing well are all new behaviors you need to learn, some people "learn" faster than others.

If I found myself sliming or PB a lot, then I would consider my behaviors first and if I'm not the problem, then I would consider that my band might be too tight and get a slight unfill. some people resist the unfill because they are afraid weight loss will slow down.

It's ok to lose slower with the band, that's how it's supposed to work, but we are human and we get impatient sometimes.

I have struggled with this. I have PB'd and slimed quite a few times. I have learned that if I slow down this will not happen. In order to prevent this most disgusting of reactions, you just learn how to eat differently. You can have this operation without experiencing these things. You just need to take small bites and chew, chew, chew.

Diddo to all of the above posts. I have had only a few episodes of things getting stuck and it was my fault and not the band. I find that if I wait to long to eat and am very hungry I forget all the rules. I have to remember to chew chew chew and chew some more.

Have it done....these are small issues that you can control.

Best of luck!

Cindy

It's not really vomit per say... you throw up but it's not like when you are sick. The food never makes it to the stomach before coming back up so there's no acid involved... the slime is usually more like excess Water in your mouth that is trying to lubricate whatever food is stuck. I've been banded three months, I've had one big PB episode. I've slimed a few times but it was so mild that it didn't phase me.

The benefits to this surgery so out weigh these little problems that I'm happy to deal with them. They scared me a bit before surgery, but now that I've lived them I realize how little they truly bother or affect me.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
