Did my band slip??

Recommended Posts

Ok, it hurts to even drink milk. Then I make this weird noise from my throat. It feels tight like I have a ballon in my throat. I had a fill in Nov. and have been fine. I am under tons of stress right now, and I started a new med that causes stomach problems. When I eat it will stay down for about 15 min. and then comes back up. Do you think my band slipped?? I was going to do liquids for a week and see if that helps. I don't have the money right now to reband or do appts. Any suggestions or thoughts would be appreciated!!:)

Ultimately, you need to get to your doc and do a barium swallow just in case.

In the best case scenerio, due to upset stomach irritation, or stress-- both can cause tightness-- you're just tight and need some unfill.

Either way, get to a doc.

jme62,

I'm going through something very similar right now.

I had my surgery a month before you, lost 70 pounds, had my last fill in November.

Cannot keep down food at certain situations.

Made an appointment for barium swallow, I think you should too.

Thanks for the advice. WEnt to the doc today and he took all my fill out. Said my band does not do well with stress bc of stom. acid. I feel 100% better!! I am so glad to hold down liquids again!! On liquids for another week but at least I am not throwing up! He will refill in 4 weeks!

I thought I had a slip once so I called my surgeon. He said if I can get Water down, it's not a slip.

I just want to add for others who might read this thread, that having gone through a slip personally, this is not necessarily true. I had a slip and was able to drink water and Protein Shakes and some soft foods. It really depends on how bad the slip is and other factors.

I have confirmation from a barium swallow that I have a big slip. I have chronic heartburn and weight gain

They are unfilling my band tomorrow to see if that will correct the slip, if not, they will have to surgically correct.

Just be aware, symptoms can be so different from person to person. If you don't feel right, call your doc.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
