Drinkers Before and After

Recommended Posts

Hello Everyone,

Do we have any drinkers in the house? I probably drink 2 times a week and at least one of them is a pretty horrible next day. It is mostly wine and martinis. However I know I have started to cut down, but can anyone tell me what their drinking experiences were before and after getting the band. Can you drink at all? If so how much?

Thanks Elaine

I'm a Wine / Martini person myself - I cut that out by 75% after getting the band. 3 things, 1- It slows my weightloss down / 2- I'm a lightweight now (I could throw them back previously) / 3- I workout too much and don't like feeling like a slug in the AM.

Each wkend I usually have a martinin or 2 - and during the wk, a glass of wine here or there. My Dr did not say I "coulnd't" have alcohol, just use in moderation - and watch those "liquid calories"

Alcohol (for me) helped put my excess weight on. I stopped being active & ate too much...

My doc told me I could drink...just be sensible about it. They dont want you drinking every day by any means. I drink usually once on the weekend, and yes i do catch a buzz. It only takes me like 4 drinks to do that now, and I drink much slower. You will be fine, and able to drink. Just dont overdo it. Good Luck!

i was a crown and coke girl before but now I just stick with shots. A couple shots and I am good for the night! If I stick with the same shot, I have no hangover the next day. If I do a mix drink it makes me feel yuck the next day.

I only drink when I go to a bar or club with friends. I can still drink liquids quite fast, but I do get drunk quicker. I just reached restriction so we'll see if that changes things a little. I used to only drink rum and coke but naturally that had to change. Now I stick to vodka and lime or if I'm making it at home I'll have vodka, Water, and crystal light mixed so I don't feel quite as guilty about the calories.

Elaine you soo read my mind with starting this thread I am still a bit of a partier so I was wondering how I would do with drinking after I get banded. I' sure I will have to slow down/ cut back alot.

I was banded jan 16 and my first drink (vodka and juice) made my stomach burn. Even now sometimes liquor makes my stomach burn. I am also a light weight now. Before it took me 4 or 5 drinks to get drunk.. well I had a house party and I was drunk off two cups. and I mean tore up drunk.. but just becareful cause it may just hit you all at once

I was really freaked out by what I have read about drinking here on the forum. I started drinking a little here and there about 3 weeks after surgery. I can drink about 3 beers at a time(very slowly) and I am fine with that. I realize that that is about 300 calories but I try to make up for it in some other way.

For some reason, I can't drink AT ALL. I had a margarita last week and I got so nauseated and actually threw up. It was awful. This never happened before. Anyone had similar experience?

I can drink if I want to, but I really don't like to drink that much. Now, lately, I have been a bad monkey, but that doesn't change what I usually do.

Oh, and the thing that does the best for me is red bull and vodka. A couple of those and I'm good for the night. :tt1:

I was a beer drinker before getting banded, and now I am trying to find new non-carbonated options to drink. This weekend I bought some Boone's Farm strawberry Margarita, thinking it was apple wine like the Strawberry hill, etc. After drinking about half the bottle I felt so full like I had just ate thanksgiving dinner. Come to find out, it's first ingredient is carbonated Water as well! Ugh!

Does anyone have any suggestions for a good tasting wine that is not $20.00 a bottle or more?

We have a little Texas Winery close to where I live and they have some that is called "sweet rodeo red" that I really like (plus it is really strong, only takes like 2 glasses) but it is kinda pricey. I guess you get what you pay for.

I used to drink alot, but now since February I have had 1 mixed drink. I don't miss the alcohol at all, I thought I would but I really don't. Besides I can get down at the club sober... I still like a good dance club now and then.:smile2:

I used to be a really big drinker. I pretty much cut it out in anticipation of the surgery. I really enjoy my mornings a lot more now

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
