I've found myself drinking more and more in the last year or so, sabotaging my weight loss. It has always been nice to have a beer now and again. The carbonation has never been a problem for me. But I have found that alcohol might be taking the place of food in my life.

Has anyone else found this to be the case? One bad habit takes the place of another? How do you give up something that never seemed a problem before? I know this is the reason I am not losing weight. There's about 4000 calories a week (at least) in beer!

Anyone else out there looking to get out of this trap?

There has been other post on the forum about this. It's addiction transfer. Alcohol replaces the old carbs/sugars you once gave your body through food.

You can try breaking the habit alone ( go to high liquid Protein diet, like the pre-op or post op ones) or make an appt to see the surgeon for advice. Be honest with the surgeon. I'm sure you're not the first one to tell them this.

Good luck.

Thanks. I plugged in "alcohol" and got nothing. Searching thru the maze of forums and posts is not practical for me at the moment.

Thanks again for the link.

Yes, I am now a smoker! I had quit 7 years before the band but now I have started back. However, I feel better with the weight loss :)

I really hope you'll make an appt with your Dr.

The empty calories are bad for your nutrition and the alcohol is bad for your liver. Perhaps your Dr. could do an LFT test by bloodwork. It's a liver function test.

I'll be going in for a physical at the end of April or beginning of May. If things aren't any better by then I am definitely going to say something to him then. He's been very supportive of my weight loss efforts.

Thanks for letting me know. I was worried for you. I hope you'll post after your physical and hopefully your (and your dr's answers) will help someone else struggling with this.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
