Deciding about another fill

Recommended Posts

I have had 4 already. I have been very restricted for almost 2 1/2 - 3 months now and lost about 26-27 lbs during that time period. In the last 2 weeks my portions have been getting bigger and I have been getting hungrier between meals. Am I jumping the gun on a fill? I decided to get the ball rolling and at least schedule an appointment with the nutritionist for this week. My restriction is totally inconsistant - one day I can eat a ton - one day I feel pretty restricted again - all and all my restriction has decreased since where it was at my optimal restriction when I was losing weight more quickly. What do you guys think?

Karen you workout hard!! My Doc suggests that since I'm doing such hard circut training - I may need to eat more. At the last fill 2wks ago, my surgeon really didn't want me to go below eating less than a cup of food per meal & for the first time suggested I carry raw almonds/jerky w/me after a workout for "snacking" ... his No, No.

You may need a slight fill - I would try a small one and see how that goes....BTW your doing GREAT!!!

I dont know, one thing I find with myself is that I've been thinking I need another fill, its almost a year now since my last. But in reality, I"m not eating like a bandster should a lot of the time. Of COURSE you can eat a lot of chocolate over the course of the morning. Which is what I did yesterday rather than eat Breakfast. User error.

Another fill is fine, its just always good to have a good audit of your habits and work out whether its more restriction you need or less eating round the band.

From what you say sounds like you're not worried that you're eating wrong, just that you're hungrier, which is probably a good time to start thinking about a small tweak.

Restriction is kind of different for everyone. FOr me it means that I feel stuffed and if i go too far I get a painful lump in my throat. That means I have eaten too much. You probably need another fill because when I was properly restricted I barely felt hunger.

You are right about the reviewing thing. I naturally prefer healthy foods so that was never an issue for me - portions are. My doctors office has us do a food log for a while before deciding about a fill so I think I will accomplish both.

Thanks so much Luluc: You are doing great too. I had an issue when I got my last fill when I wasn't eating enough before spinning classes (4-5x per week) and I was told to have another snack 1/2 yogourt or glass of skim milk when I was spinning.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
