Post Revision and Possible Infection?

Recommended Posts

I had a port revision last week ... actually it was more of a tubing popping out issue, but it was resolved.

Now my post incision is just oozing with puss and hurts a lot.

I first noticed some redness around where the larger bandaid was on top of the steri strips and removed the larger bandaid, and then today (6 six days following surgery) I took off the steri strips, b/c they were soaked in fluids and placed two huge bandaids on the port incision.

I am scheduled to see the doctor on Wed morning but called today to see if he could see me earlier, as I am just about ready to take a brillo pad and scratch the hell out of the area.

I told the nurse that I had removed the steri strips and she got very upset that I had done that.

But seriously, they were just hanging on by a thread and soaked with all sorts of dried up blood and puss.

Is this major? Removing the steri strip?

Also, why would I all of sudden be allergic to the adhesive of the larger bandaid; I was okay with it for the initial surgery.

What's the worse that can happen now that I have removed the steri stips? The wound is covered up.

Pus usually looks like cottage cheese but in color. ;o) Seromas usually have a drainage that is an oil consistency such as cooking oil. What color and consistency is your drainage?

If indeed it is an infection vs. a seroma you can't wait until tomorrow, you need to be seen today. If your doc can't get you in what about an ER?

Ewww. I may never be able to eat cottage cheese again.

I do agree, though, infection is NOTHING to be cavalier about, get it looked at as soon as possible.
