Port site pain 1 month post-op

Recommended Posts

Hi, I was banded 3/19 and other then the initial pain in the port site area that went away I was fine. UNTIL last week when I started feeling sharp pains off & on from the port site when I walk and sometimes when I'm lying down. I'm doing what my Dr says (not too much of anything) except walking but yet this pain. I'm worried 'cause adhesions had been a problem in a previous surgery and I'm hoping that there isn't adhesions forming. Right now I'm a bit constipated and gassy and the pain is there. I go in for my first fill on 3/25. Any thoughts? Could this just be one part of the experience?

I too have pains that come and go around the port site. I was worried about infection. Don't know. The incision feels hard and then right underneath it is the port and sometimes I get sharp pains and then sometimes I dont. UGHH!

betrthnever,

I've been banded for almost 5 months now... however, in regards to pain subsiding post op... port pain lasted the longest for me. I'd say at least 1-2 months. I had port pain and discomfort for at least a full month after I felt recovered and healed from everything else.

Where is your port located? Mine is to the left of my belly button, right on my waistline. I was consciously aware of it all the time. NOW I never feel it or even think about it.

My dr. said my pain was ok and nothing to worry about. Check with your NP or PA if it persists... hope you feel better.:)

It is probably nothing but I would still give your doctor a call and mention it. Is it painful to the touch? Red and sore? is there any puss? You don't want to hang around if it's an infection. You want to catch it early on.

Good luck

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
