My port incision is looking very weird. I had a big scab on the end of it, which got all funky in the shower this morning. Part of it pulled up and shriveled up, the other part is still stuck. Under the part that pulled up, it is white under there. It has been draining a yellowish/blood tinged discharge. Does this look infected to you? I'm waiting for a call back from my doctor's office.

Well....it doesn't look like mine did....I can't say whether it is infected or not---is it hot to the touch? Itch?

I had stitches in my hand once that did something similar, and while it wasn't infected---my skin tried to grow over the scab, and become infected in that manner---it looked a bit like your picture....they scrubbed it ---at the Dr.'s office. I would call him!

That is what they are there for when we have issues!

Let us know!

I called earlier this morning and they said they would get back to me. So far, I haven't gotten a call back. It isn't itchy right on that spot, but itchy all around the rest of my stomach, and has been since about 5 days post-op. Maybe a little warm to the touch. I put a big bandage over it for right now and I'm trying not to mess with it so I can't tell.

Hard to tell from the picture, but it doesn't look red to me, is it warm to the touch? The oozing could be Fluid from a seroma, which isn't dangerous, but your doctor will know best. Get it checked out by your regular doc even if your surgeon doesn't think he/she needs to see it.

Infection is too dangerous to be overlooked. Keep us posted!

yeah, sorry, I re-read your post that you had a call in. I am in agreement if you do not hear from your surgeon, make an appointment to see your PCP, or drop by an Urgent Care Center, let someone look at it, infection has to be caught early.

Sorry this is stressing you---it would me too!

Well, I just called the office again and they took my pharmacy number and said he'll probably call something in for me at the end of the day. Apparently he doesn't address phone calls until he has seen all of his patients. I guess it's better safe than sorry to go ahead and get on antibiotics.

I had bad luck and caught an infection where the port was. It kinda looked like your pic but was red and angry looking, which yours isn't. It hurt to touch and eventually even to breath.

I eventually had to be rushed in to surgery and have it removed so to be on the safe side please keep harassing your doctor. it's not a laughing matter.

Good luck........

I'm going in first thing tomorrow morning. They called me back after finally talking the dr and he wanted to see me just in case. It is more red today, but not draining anymore. I think I might have a seroma, as there is a big lump under the incision.

I saw my doctor today. He said the incision is not infected. I'm so relieved. He did say that it looks like I had a slight reaction to either the internal stitches or the dermabond on the outside. Either way, it isn't too bad and should go away soon.

He went ahead and scheduled me for a fill on Monday! I'm so glad because I've been so hungry this week.

Sometimes reading the posts here make me wonder if some people just weren't mentally ready for WLS and needed more time with the bariatric team psychiatrist. Complaining about the limited drink/food choices early on... blah..blah...blah. The living to eat mentality really needs to go and be replaced with eating to live. JS

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.
