HELP: how to make Nectar protein tasty?

Recommended Posts

Hi Suzanne, have you tried the Muscle Milk from Smart and Final? It's very high in Protein and it taste wonderful it's also Lactose Free. Calories if I can remember are about 270 but if you're replacing a meal it's great. Flavors are banana Cream, strawberry, chocolate. There's also the flavorings that I was introduced to in my support group by Torani and they're sugar free. (Purchase at Smart and Final Also) You can add them to any protein mix and it makes a world of difference. I was just banded on May 27, 2008, but I did alot of experimenting and attended the support group before surgery a few times. Good Luck. :biggrin2:

I'm with you Zanny, I do enjoy my morning berry flavoried American whey w/frozen berries and 1/4 cup of Fage Yogurt, but would love to switch up from time to time. Have something cool and clean tasting. I've done some research on line and came across the web site for Isopure bottles, I have'nt tried any so can't say if they are good or not. Sounds great the way they descripe them on the site:confused: but then they want to make a sale. The ingredients are listed as Supplement facts - Apple Melon: Serving size 20 ounces Calories 160, fat 0, carbs 0, sugar 0, Protein 40 grams

Other Ingredients: Filtered Water, Ion-Exchange whey Protein Isolate, Sucralose, FD&C Red #40, Malic Acid, FD&C Blue #1, Polysorbate 80, Natural and Artificial Flavors

No Preservatives, No Carbs, Lactose Free, Fat Free, Aspartame Free

So did a little research on Ion Exchange Whey Protein Isolate and found this site

Whey Protein powder - CFM, Ion Exchange Whey Protein Information Very Very Very interesting reading. Think I'll just stick to my powder.:incazzato:

Don't invest a lot of money in Isopuke, I think it's gross. It's not the flavor that is bad, it's the texture. It tastes like it has a bit of pond scum in there, just gross.

In our household we always make Crystal Light half-strength. (One little tub per gallon of water.) That said, I have had good success mixing Unjury strawberry Sorbet with several different flavors of CL - Peach tea, Sunrise Orange, Strawberry Kiwi, etc. We also like to use the Wal-Mart brand of drink mixes and I like to mix the Unjury with the cherry flavor.

Since I couldn't/wouldn't give up my one cup of vanilla nut coffee each morning, I decided to mix it with my Protein powder. I make a pot of coffee each MOnday and refrigerate it. Each morning I take about 8 oz of coffee, one sweet and low and a scoop of protein power and put in a large measuring cup. I then blend with my immersion blender, pour over ice and enjoy it. I bought my whey protein powder online in vanilla cake flavor and chocolate fudge - some days I use half of each and it is great. It is my treat for the day.

i am recently banded and still in the "you have to drink 3 shakes a day" stage, and i hated all of the nectar drinks as well, but i discovered (and yes this is weird) that if you blend in some sugar free Jello of any kind with whatever flavor to make something that sounds good to you, a lot of it becomes a little more bearable...

for instance i mixed a strawberry Jello in with the strawberry kiwi and the lemonade and the jello flavor overpowers the powder a little and gives it that nice artificial flavor

just get jello already prepared and scoop it into the blender with whatever you use to make powders :smilielol5: hope it helps others stuck in liquid stage!!

The only one so far I found over powering in this Protein was the Cherry. Was very, very over powering. I just ordered the Pina colda flavor (tropical).

I 100% stand behind this Protein.< /p>

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
