Lap Band Surgery

I am from Southern NJ and am interested in lap band surgery. I have gone through with all the requirements for gastric bypass and opted not too. It seemed too risky. After doing my own research, I have found that lap band is less evasive and much less riskier than gastric bypass. HELP anyone please?

Is your cry for help re: surgeon choice? Could you be a little more specific? ;)

Welcome to LBT - most of us here arrived at the same conclusion as you have - lapband much less risky than RnY.

Poke around the site - there's lots of stuff to learn before you get banded that will help make your journey much smoother and less stressful.

Hi Tshyyone,

Welcome to LBT!! Probably the best place to start with a surgeon recommendation is Inamed's website, www.inamed.com. They train the doctors to install their band, so they're a good source for referrals.

Are you trying to get insurance to pay for it? Once you have a list of docs in your area, the next step is to figure out which ones are in your insurer's network. That will probably eliminate most of the guesswork from finding a surgeon.

Many people in New Jersey travel to NYC for banding, and there are at least a few surgeons in Northern New Jersey who are very experienced (mine included). So if you can't find someone really close to home, there are lots of options farther afield.

Nice to meet you!

I have not been banded yet but have met with who I believe to be a very good sergent. Dr. Patel of Atlantic City Medical Center. I am going to all the appointments to get ready for the surgery. His office is located in Linwood.

I am going to Dr. Noyan just south of trenton takes about an hour to get there but he was the only one that takes my ins. without leaving the state. After my first visit I was really at ease with him. I am sure he did not intend on spending an hour talking to just me:eek: but he did. Sorry if anybody here was sitting in the waiting room that day :nervous

here is the link to his info if you want it the page needs to be updated

badly but the contact info is right Just not the numbers of surgeries

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
