Hi!

My name is Mariah and I am new to LapBandTalk. I am planning on having the lapband surgery. I am waiting for my insurance approval and surgery date. My surgeon is Dr. Cirangle. I am so excited. I have been reading so many posts. This is a great site! I' ve been having a huge problem controlling my eating since my final decision. I did well for about a week, but as my as usual, when I get nervous or emmotional I overeat. I can't wait until that is no longer an option. I am hoping for a surgery date in April(hopefully mid). I've been contemplating this for two years now. I wish I had decided to follow through two years ago, but I guess I just wasn't ready. Any way I'd love to make some friends that have or will be going through some of the same issues I am.

Welcome to LBT!

Struggling with overeating those last few weeks before surgery is a very common problem. Often called "last supper syndrome". The thought of being restricted on our food intake is scary, and we imagine not being able to eat our favorite things, so we scarf down everything in sight.

Chance are, you'll still be able to eat pretty much anything after banding. (post healing stage) Just in smaller quantities. Just because you can, doesn't mean you should, of course, but you physically will be able to.

Now would be the time to kickstart your weight loss! Might as well get going now -- try out some of the bandster eating guidelines and see how they feel.

Hope you find out your surgery date soon!

Thank you for your support. It looks like you are doing fabulous with the band. It's nice to know that there are so many people out there that this procedure has worked for. What do you think the most important advice is for a soon to be bander? I had my appointment with my pcp today and I actually lost 2 pounds. I think I am just becommming more aware of what I am putting in my mouth. 3 out of my 5 reccomended books arrived today. 2 of them are cook books for after surgery and one has a little bit of everything. Can't wait to get reading. Anyway, Thank you again for your support. I am so happy to have found this site!!:Dancing_biggrin:

I'm kind of regretting the stall that I went through for almost a year -- I should have been more proactive about getting a fill and about going to talk to a counselor (banded herself) about what I was struggling with. Instead, I mostly just walked away from weight loss for months. I would have been a lot closer to goal now had I stuck with it.

So stick with it for the long haul & find support if you start to waffle on sticking to the plan. I'm really glad the Band is still ready & waiting now that I've got my head in the game again.

I've experienced the same thing. In fact, from the time I first began the journey toward lap band surgery (November), until only days ago, I've gained quite a bit of weight. But then again, I've been gaining in leaps and bounds for a long time now.

Now that I'm on the pre-surgical diet, I tell myself that all those things I loved to eat in the past are at least things I experienced and enjoyed -- which is better than not having ever tasted them at all.

I certainly had my share of 3 lb. lobsters!

Good luck to you. I, too, just began posting here, so it's especially nice to "meet" you!

I've enjoyed chatting with you. Do you live in New York? I am out here in california. How is your liquid going? AARRGG!! My time is comming. It's all worth it. I just hope this band gives me the control I need. I can't wait to be "me" again. I long for Energy!! I've been wondering what my energy level will be like with caloric intake of 400 - 800 calories per day. Seems sooo low. I'm not complaining- just a little curious.

Yes, I live in New York. I feel fortunate to have access to NYU and Drs. Ren and Fielding. Where in California do you live?

It's funny, but just today I burst into tears and told my doctor that "I just want to be 'me" again" -- just like you said yourself.

I'm also one of those people who never dreamed she could ever be fat. I was underweight for more than half my life, and a normal weight until several years ago. I don't look in the mirror much, but when I do, I'm shocked by the multi-chinned face staring back at me.

Now when I look back at those times when I thought I was fat -- and I was -- I think of how clueless I was that the worst was yet to come.

I am in northern California, about 5 hours north of SanFrancisco. I can totally relate to your story about thinking you were fat and weren't. Seems funny now. Today was so frustrating. My coworker was telling me about a diet pill she just started. She said maybe I should put the surgery off and try it. The funny thing is that I was already on it about 3 years ago. I gained all the weight back plus some. I just want a permanent solution. I know that everyone wants to help, but I've made up my mind. After, a 15 minute conversation about how she thought I should rethink my decision, I gave up. I'm having a hard time talking to people about this at work. I'm wondering if I should have kept it to myself. How was day 3 of your liquid? Have you heard anything from the insurance company yet? Your date is set for the 5th, right? I saw that someone else on this forum got their approval on the insurance web site. I searched mine, but couldn't find a place for pre aproval. I just got my kids in bed and now its my time to relax.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
