How many weeks before 1st fill?

Recommended Posts

Hello,

Just wondering how many weeks each of you went before you got your first fill? I am supposed to wait 1 month (5 weeks) but I am thinking of calling my doc to see if I can get in at the 4th week because I am wayyyy to hungry now, am eating everything in site and have no restriction. Is 4 weeks legit or is this pushing it?

Thanks,

Lise

Lise,

Depending on the band you have, the manufacturer recommends waiting 6 weeks for the first fill. If your Dr. is willing to do a fill at 5 weeks consider yourself lucky. But just know that it can take several fills before you have any significant restriction to speak of. I didn't have any real restriction until my 3rd fill. I now have 5cc's in a 10cc APS band.

Hope this helps.

Hi- My doctor didn't even expect me to lose any weight for the first 6 weeks after surgery. Of course I did. He told me he just wanted to be sure I followed the post-op diet. He said it was very important for the stitches to heal that hold the band in place. He didn't want it to slip. I remember getting really hungry. Instant mashed potatoes (idahoan has some great flavors) became my favorite "food". Try to get creative with soft things to keep you full for longer. You'll make it to 6 weeks. It can take more than one fill to find restriction. This definitely is a journey....

Good luck to you!

Take care!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
