Had surgery two days ago. Pretty rough Friday and Sat. but I feel like a human again today. Pretty sore, but at least gas pains have gone. Back to rest now.

Congratulations on being banded. Just try and take it easy the next few days. Sometimes people are either hungry or lose their appetite. Either way is normal. Just try and stay on your postop diet the best you can. Try not to cheat. Just relax and take it easy.

Hello. I know exactly how you feel.. I was just banded on 3/11/2008 @ UT Southwestern by Dr. Daniel Scott, and the worse pain that I had from it was the gas. I was and am so glad that it is over. The problem that I am having now is that I see things that I want to eat that I know my stomach is not going to support. UUUGGGHHHH!

Congratulations and welcome to bandland. It is a little tough now but in a month you will hardly remember you had surgery. Take it easy and give your body time to heal. Walking helps with the gas pain.

Take care!

had a question about gas x. i asked my dr about it helping and she told me not to believe everything i read online..she was quite rude about it too. but then she explained how the gas isnt from ur insides, intestines..its put into u, outside ur organs therefor the gas x dont help. she said just drink Water and walk walk walk. but i bought them anyway, bc once i started eating full liquids i found that i needed them then. just an insight for u.

The best ones I have discovered are the Gas X tablets with Maylox in them. They are the best.

I agree with your Dr. and I think some Dr's tell us to take them for any placebo effect. The gas after surgery is not in our colon, like gas from food. It is pumped into our belly for the surgery and just takes time/ movement to go away.

It's just easier for people to want something they think will help.

Congrats! I was banded 3/3 and still adjusting. But I agree with everyone else, drink plenty of fluids and walk, walk, walk! It's the best excercise. Hang in there!

I was banded yesterday and I'm feeling pretty good except for the gas pains. My incisons don't really hurt. I've had a headache for a couple of days...probably caffeine withdrawals. I'm sipping on diabetic boost which is all I can have besides Water for the first 2 weeks. I really have no appetite at all. Hope it stays that way.

I also was banded on the 14th. Excited to find someone else on here who was as well. I worked a 1/2 day Monday and felt like crap. However, each day I have felt better and better. Today, I feel like my old self except for the itching on my stomach. I can even lay on my stomach again. WOOHOO!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
