Yesterday I woke up.....

Recommended Posts

I had my first dietician appointment on March 7th, for some reason I didn't take the whole thing seriously. I left the appointment, stopped and McD's and ordered a super-sized Meal with a coke.

For some reason, yesterday I started reading the forum...I mean REALLY reading it. If I want to change my life forever and lose this weight that has plagued me for all of my adult life, WHY WOULD I WASTE THIS OPPORTUNITY???

You folks helped me realize this, I'm taking this 90 diet thing seriously. I stopped at Wal-mart and filled my cart with fresh veggies, fruits, lean meats and lean cuisines. I'm eating healthy today and I feel amazing...it's not about the weight I will lose pre-surgery it's about developing new habits for the future (and the rest of my life).

Thank you everyone that has posted your struggles with weightloss, you guys gave me courage to face something I've been afraid of for many years. I can't wait to be banded, but until then I'm going to work on the habits that got me to this point.

That's great Michele.

If you want this to be successful, you will need to say goodbye to anything labeled 'Supersize' that's for sure! The easiest way to look at it is either you hold on to the food, or you hold on to your health/happiness/life.

Good luck with the pre-op diet!

Michele, you don't mention your band date, read this website, it is so full of information, from way before, to way after, I have done so much reading I feel so prepared, of course it hasn't happened yet, but its coming, and the support here is great as you have found out. Forget the Mickie "Ds" you don't need all that fat, when I want to eat something that I'm not suppose to, I picture in my mind lard, yep lard, and just cringe thinking about it, heck, I just found out from my nephew that Oreo Cookies the filling is nothing but lard and sugar, now if he is correct, I don't know, but it was enough for me not to eat Oreo's anymore. Concentrate on what you want, and what you want to be, we all have a long haul coming our way, I have read over and over that this is only a "tool" and I even have to keep reminding myself of this. So good luck to you and remember everyone is here to help.

You are so right... and it is so crazy because last week i heard the same thing about the Oreo Cookies and those are***were my fav. cookies.. and they say that the creme filling is not digested... so that explains why my thighs are so damn big...lol... but seriously... thats why i luv everyone here because it takes so much for people to open up and to be honest about their struggles... Great New Beginning....

I don't have a date yet, it's required that I do 90 days supervised eating plan. Once that's done it generally takes Aetna 2wks - 30 days to finish approval.

Seems like a long journey, but I know it will be well worth it.

Thanks all for the kind words :biggrin2:

Michele, you will love being banded. I am 21 months post op and still feel this is the best decision of my life. I am 10 lbs from having plastic surgery. I went from a size 24 to a size 16. My goal is size 16 but with plastic surgery most likely I will be a 14 or size 12. Keep the faith and stay focused. You will not regret it. Good luck.

I still remember when I gave up the fast food meals and pizza's (oh I still eat them its just rare) My energy levels went through the roof. I am a naturally hyper person as it is, and this made it worse. My husband actually thought I was on something I think. But it was a good hyper, my mid afternoon crash became fewer and fewer between. I think now the only time I take a nap in the afternoon is when my head is killing me (chronic Migraines suck by the way) and I have to take a pill.

All and all I love the feeling I get when I start the day on a good meal and end it that way.. I sleep better at night too.

When I first started my 90 day diet, I did the same thing. I didn't take it serious. For the entire first month, I made sure to get the necessary veggies and stuff but continued as well to eat whatever else I wanted. By the end of the first 30 days, I was 3 lbs heavier. When I went to my Dr, she said, "You won't get approved for this surgery if you don't lose weight! I was hoping you'd lost at least 18 lbs before the surgery, but I don't think that's going to happen now." Those words really hit home. I immediately began taking the diet serious and following my dietitian’s suggestions for how to control my hunger. By the end of 90 days I was 23 lbs lighter. My doctor was shocked and I was quite satisfied to have proven her wrong. Aetna approved my surgery request pretty easily. Everything seems to be going really smoothly. I should have my surgery date by the end of the week. I'm really excited!!

Good luck to you- and remember, the diet will get easier as long as you remember what you're fighting for :biggrin:

Hi Michele (your name is spelled the same as my friend

I did the same thing... it was almost like those commercials where someone smacks you in the head because you could of had a V8! I can't believe I waited this long, suffered this much, and now I am here.... I read anything and everything on this forum. The doctors keep making comments to me about how informed I am and how tehy haven't had someone with so much knowledge and it's all from here.

I have a 6 month diet requirement... I went into it being complacent and about 3 and 1/2 months into it I woke up and thought... Oh jeez if I am doing whatever I want now what makes me think I can be banded and lose?? So here I am taking the pre op stuff much more seriously!

You're 100% Right... Do not waste the oppurtunity!

On a side note... one time years ago my SIL was making something where they needed the Cookies from the Oreos but not the cream filling. So, they scraped all the filling into a bowl. For some reason she can't explain, she ate it.

She threw up violently and won't go anywhere near an Oreo to this day. :wink2:

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
