Body not keeping up

Recommended Posts

I am just over half way to my goal. I am shopping in my closet wearing clothes that have not seen the light of day in about 10 years and altering clothing I currently have, so I am seeing myself getting smaller. However, I am not the same size I was at this weight 10 years ago and my bra size is not really going down much. I am concerned that when I reach my healthy weight goal, I will still be too large. How long does it take the body to shrink to the weight loss?

Hi,

Since you don't have a ticker, I can't tell what your weight is or how much you were when you started. The larger you are when you start, you obviously have to lose a LOT of weight to get the sizes to move, too. Are you exercising? Exercise will actually have your size go down more...for example, I recently hit an old mark at 242. When I was 242 about 15 years ago, I was just starting to SQUEEZE into an 18. This time around, I'm moving into 16s at this weight. So, I also think age and the change in your body...where you are carrying weight... changes over time. you will lose all over...you'll see!!! By the way, congrats on being halfway to your goal. THAT ROCKS!!!

I have not figured out how to make a ticker. I am 5'3" and started at 213 with a goal of 120. I am now at 163.5. I was a custom dressmaker so I make most of my clothing therefore I can not compare sizes. I did buy t-shirts in 1x and now am a large.

Sizes are not the same as they were years ago. Using a piece of clothing worn years ago as a measure is a good idea, but I wouldn't use the size.

As someone involved in the garment industy, today's size 8 is yesterdays 12 so I am well aware of that. I am just wondering how long it takes for the body to "shrink" to the weight?

Abby, my MOm's friend lost over 100 lbs on Weight Watchers. She told me yesterday that even though she is a year out that she still shrinks with her exercise routine. Your body does get use to the weight and if you continue to exercise you will still lose inches. Hope that helps.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
