a2m2p4 0 Posted March 16, 2008 Hi everyone. I had my surgery on 2/25 and for the first 8-9 days I lost 20 lbs. However, since then I haven't lost anything. I know this is normal but how long will it take? I am only eating 1/2 C of food at each sitting and I feel like I have given up so much and have nothing to show for it. Any words of encouragment would be great!!!
mini_me 3 Posted March 16, 2008 your body probably thinks that it is starving to death, so it has shut down your metabolism to preserve the fat reserves!! just hang in there. things will get better! some of us are slow losers. slow is not impossible, it is just slow. dont give up! i lost about 20 lbs immediately after surgery and then hung out at that weight for well over a year, then quite suddenly, i lost 25lbs in just a couple of months. i am not losing weight right now, but i am losing sizes...started in an 18, now an 8. i have been banded two years. good luck to you. MerryHearted 20 Posted March 16, 2008 Hang in there -- your body is healing. You will start losing again soon. I know many people lose steadily. I tend to lose in spurts.
juliegeraci 7 Posted March 16, 2008 What you are experiencing is quite normal given the fact that you lost 20 lbs rather quickly. Make sure you are eating Protein, protein protein. Make sure you are getting your fluids in and exercising. The weight loss will start again.

tsunami1967 0 Posted March 17, 2008 I too am a slow loser...I have lost 39 pounds since the 1st of September. It took me awhile to really lose anything too. I still feel successful though because of the 39#, but it took awhile. Don't give up! Do what you can, and remember the important thing right now is healing. The weightloss will come, don't get discouraged by some of the big losses you see, its different with everyone. The hard part is patience and sticking to it, don't worry in the end you'll do great it'll just take you longer, like me! I'm sending you thoughts of strength! Kristin1031 0 Posted March 17, 2008 First of all...Listen to yourself....You have lost 20 pounds in 8 days??? That is awesome weight loss......be kind to you. You just had major surgery and your body is in recovery. It will continue to heal and you will begin losing. Just follow the band rules to the letter and you will see the weight come off. The first 6 weeks after surgery is about healing your body and your band. Making sure you do not introduce solid food too quickly so that your band heals into place. Drink lots and lots of Water, this is also very important and believe me you will see results.
LiseSeattle 0 Posted March 18, 2008 20 lbs - that's amazing! i was banded on 3/4 and have only lost 11 lbs! and have you even had a fill yet? we aren't even "supposed" to be losing until we have a fill. it's hard to remember that...or accept it - but that's what "they" say! elkhunter_65 0 Posted March 18, 2008 Hang in there. I think I'm ,losing so fast because I ate so poorly before. You are still healing and are off to a great start, Hey at least you are not gaining. I'm sure if you keep up on the Proteins and Water it will kick in. Keep your chin up!
skythelimit 0 Posted March 18, 2008 same thing has happen to me too, I was banded on the 22/1 lost 20lbs in a week, I thought well this is great, and then before I had my first fill I put back on 2lbs , As I was back on soilds, I had my first fill on the 3 /3 and didn't feel any restriction went back a week later for another fill on 11/3 and finally starting to lose again slowly, I hear your pain, It really does your head in. I think OMG I'm going to fail, I just pull my self out of it, Look your done great and lost 20lbs:thumbup: Plus you are early days. My doc keeps telling me to relax, It because we have had such a great lost at the begining we want that every week, well I know I did, plus I go to the gym which really help's even though my weight came to a little stand still:angry: I found I was still losing cm's on my hips and waist etc, Take care
cantweight2go 1 Posted March 18, 2008 I had my surgery on the same day as you and I have only lost 5 pounds thus far. During the first 2 weeks I lost nothing. 20 pounds are a lot for less than a month. Be patient. I, too, am not eating a lot right now and it seems like the weight should be coming off faster then it is. I wish you luck!

Boo Boo Kitty 3 Posted March 18, 2008 I agree that 20 pounds in 1 month is FANTASTIC! You need to give your body time to catch up with that great loss. I can tell you there were times I thought for sure I was stuck and weight would fall off in big amounts. I know they save 1-2 pounds per week, but that is an average overall. Some weeks more, some less. As long as you are following the plan you are ok! Good luck!
MichelleInCA 22 Posted March 18, 2008 It's so great for me to read these thoughts from everyone, because I've stopped losing too. Banded on 5 March, lost 8 lbs in a few days, and nothing more for the last 6 days. I'm able to eat just about anything and quite a lot of it, so now I'm back to relying on willpower, which was never my strong suit. I'm glad I'm not the only one waiting for the healing and first fill to come. It's just hard when you see people reporting big weight losses from day 1 on!
