Feelings right after fills.....

Recommended Posts

Hey all. I have had a strange feeling every time I get a fill. When I am getting the fill - I get really light headed - almost like a "stoned" type feeling. Then - usually after (as I am walking to my car and driving home) I feel a stronger intense "stoned" feeling. It actually feels really good. Takes me back to my younger days :o. Then usually as my day goes on - I try to eat some Tomato Soup - it goes down ok, I just eat it really slow.

Within a few hours after the fill I get a headache and start to feel somewhat sick, almost like how you feel before you get a bad cold or flu. I usually take a nap and stay lazy for the rest of the day; resting. I have been taking the day off of work every time I get a fill because of these weird feelings I have. By the next day, I am feeling back to normal.

Do others have any similar feelings after they get a fill?

WOW. That seems crazy! I want some of what you're getting because I only get sterile saline in my band! LOL! I am wondering if it's anxiety? There shouldn't be anything in the fill that would do this to you! INTERESTING to see if it happens to anyone else!

Several people on the forum describe feeling very lightheaded, fainting type feeling. I've had that, too.

I think it is related to the vagus nerve. The tightening of the band (and some swelling following the fill) must distrub the nerve.

You can do an online search of vagus nerve for more info.

Be careful driving if you don;t feel well.

I had my first 2 fills under floro in the hospital and everything went just fine but my 3rd fill I had lost enough weight that the Doc said he could probebly find the port without floro. So I went into his office to have the fill and oh my word he had to dig to find the port I don't know how many times he took out the needle and tried and I almost passed out, it was such a strange feeling. I have never passed out before so I was freaked out by this experience.

It ended up I had to go under floro to get my 3rd fill. I was so scared about getting another one that I had a 4th floro done at the hospital too. But the 5th one I bit the bullet and tried it in the office and it's been fine ever since.

I feel absolutely nothing when I get a fill. I notice extra tightness for a few days but that is it.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
