I must confess....I have been on a lower carb diet for the past 5 weeks.....1 extra week, becaue my surgery got pushed back a week for my doctor being out of town for my original surgery date on the 10th. I totally messed up this week and have been eating normally, and after reading Tom's post about his steak issue.....I have to say I am so incredibly down on myself now for messing up this past week. I was limited to 40 carbs a day on the pre-op diet, but this past week has been hell. Someone tell me I totally haven't messed up my surgery scheduled for Monday! Or just some reassurance is needed. Its been a rough 5 weeks, but didn't really get to me until this past week - that dreaded "extra week" Any suggestions or lectures?

I guess we all handle stress by eating. Don't worry, It takes a lot longer than a week to mess up what you did in 4 weeks! You have acknowledge why you "messed up" this week, now is the time to move past it. Get excited about your surgery this week! What's done is done, Celebrate what you did in 4 weeks!

Your life is about to take a turn for the better, forget about this last week and look forward to the future.

Good for you for taking this big step, and lots of luck with your surgery!

Hey don't beat yourself up! This liquid diet thing isn't easy. Everytime I thought I was going to cheat (usually at night as I could make it thru the day without any problem) I found myself just going to bed (as early as 7pm on steak craving night) so i would not eat anything. Its Sunday and in less than 48 hrs I get banded - finally! I must say, this whole liquid diet thing has gotten so much easier towards the end. Keep yourself busy, go for drives, shop till you drop. Between saving so much money from not buying groceries and dropping 19.5 lbs (yes, 19.5 lbs) in less than 2 weeks, I'm patting myself on the back (I can reach now!) for making it this far. I think I did share on day 3, i cheated with a can of chef boy ar dee, canned beef ravioli. Who knew, they are delicious. So, again, don't beat yourself up. Fill up on sf tropical flavor popsicals when you feel the need to eat - they are great! The best to you. Tom from seattle

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
