Biker from MS, says HI!

Recommended Posts

Just wanted to say hi. Waiting for the Ins to approve surgery. I saw this thread and decided to post. I ride a Kawasaki 500. I am still just learning, but well, was wondering. When you guys got banded, how long did you stay off bike? Did you notice anything different, in the feel of your insides, as you rode? Thanks,

Hi D! Welcome to LBT. Check out some of the other threads in here. Jax has only had her band for a couple of months. She could probably give you the most recent advise and experiences. How long have you been riding? I've got relatives down your way. Jackson, in fact, and Long Beach.

I've actually been riding for a little over a year. Still a newbie at it. Just got up the courage to drive 50? It's still a little too fast for me, or so it feels that way. We do alot of riding in the country, so slow speeds are great. I hope to meet and talk to more of you that have or are going to be banded. BTW I live in Pass Christian.

Hi D! My doctor said I could ride as soon as four days post op as long as I wasn't on pain medication, but I didn't really feel like riding until about ten days post op. Was still a little too sore to wear jeans that were digging into my tummy. I don't feel any different now when I'm riding than when I rode pre-op. I was banded on 2.7.08 so it's been about six weeks for me now.

I have a Harley Fat Bob and I ride fast! LOL

Nice to meet you!

Hello Dispatch15, I'm still around. Got banded in May. Down 43 pounds so far. Rode a few weeks ago, it was wonderful. Could just be in my mind, but I did feel different on my bike, without the extra weight. I live down on the coast. I hear you about the expense. Thank God, our insurance paid for this. I wish you a Happy New Year and good luck with your journey to be banded.

D'

I have a Victory Vegas and just rode it for the first time today since last fall. Of course, I live in an area where it was put away for the winter (I'm still a fair-weather rider), but today felt good. Nothing strange or weird at all. And it felt nice fitting in my riding clothes so much better. Went from size 24 to 20 jeans, and my riding jacket (mesh with protective material) is LOOSE now, baby!

Oh gosh, sorry! You already know how it feels. I didn't notice this thread began last year. *blush*

Hi Dispatch, Here it is May 28 and I just read your post. So, did you get banded? I hope so. Right now I am holding at 40 pounds. They call this a plateau? So, I need to do something to jump start again. Good luck and let me hear back.

Hi KastenD,

Yeah I had my band on the 18th of May in Monterrey,MX. I lost 12 lbs since the 18th. Dr Zapata is the great is the most wonderful dr in the world never have been treated so kind. I got back to McAllen,TX on the 20th and was in a wedding the 23rd. We left MS in our moterhome on the 15th and only took my husband bike cuz I knew that I wouldn't be able to drive mind. But I rode with my husband on his bike that thursday which was the 21st. My Dr told me he didn't really want me to drive my bike since my bike is heavy for 6 weeks so eveything can heal inside. I ride a Harley softtail. I hate that too cuz I'm not use to being bitch. ha I've been riding about 38 yrs. I'm glad it over and would do it again and I don't want to do anything to damage my band. I'm really really doing good my port is a little sore but other than that I'm good no pain. Hope you have a good day and ride safe

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
