Anyone know about Dr. Oliak in Orange, Ca?

Recommended Posts

Hi Angelface,

I know of Dr Oliak. I went to a couple of meetings with his group prior to having my surgery. I ended up going with Dr Lui (also in orange) because he was able to get insurance approval quicker. Dr Oliak is one one of his associates, though and I've only heard good things about him.

When I researched my doctor originally, I went to the website "healthgrades.com" and ordered a report. It helped me to feel comfortable with my decision to use the doctor that I chose and I have not had any regrets. You may want to check it out.

Dr. Oliak is my doctor. He is great. I had my surgery Jan 7th, and it went as smoothly as possible. His staff is wonderful and I would highly recommend him. My insurance actually set me up with him, but I have two friends that also had the surgery and they too used Dr. Oliak.

Hello i had my surgery with Dr . Oliak on 12-28-07 and I have ppo ins and i still had to pay almost $4000 out of pocket which was for his aftercare plus I had my surgery at Garden Grove hospital and had to pay an additional $750 :grouphug:!!!! Plus every time I get a fill it's considered a procedure not an office visit ..... so I have a $20 co-pay plus an additional $60 that ins won't cover. He is an awsome Dr and his staff is good , I chose him because I felt really comfortable with him. I do think I overpayed though. From the time I had the first consult it took me about 2 months later and I had my surgery my ins didn't require a long waiting time.

I'm scheduled with Dr. Oliak on June 22, 2009. One of the reasons I chose him, aside from the healthgrades and Chapman being a good facility... and being near my sister, who I'll stay with for a few days after surgery... I like the way he places the port. I can only explain that he secures the port to a mesh and places it "in" the abdomen, not on the muscle wall. It heals in place by developing scar tissue. This helps keep the port in place (no flipping) and there isn't a risk of the port detaching. Also, it's closer to the surface, making fills easier. He said that he's consulting with Lap Band to make this a standard procedure.

And, I ain't gonna lie girls... he's easy on the eyes...LOL

I'm self pay with Dr. Oliak (16k, includes surg, anes, hosp, f/u and fills for 12 months). I went to a seminar on May 2, consultation a week later on May 8, a long day appt. on June 9 and surgery on June 22.

For self payers, remember that you can write off cost that exceeds 7.5% of your adjusted gross income. See IRS 502 for rules. http://www.discoverybenefits.com/attachments/p502%20Medical%20Expenses%202008.pdf

He's the best...I have sucky insurance so I had to self pay but it was so worth it. He has a very regular-guy personality and has some of the lowest complications stats you'll see. He sews a little piece of your stomach over the band so it can NEVER slip and he has never had a slip. Also like someone said, the port isnt attached to the muscle so it doesnt hurt or irritate those abs at all. He is just the best and I really cant say enough about him...since I am self pay I could have gone anywhere and since he is four hours from here...well, I just think he was all worth it! Good luck, Cali

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
