Hi I'm a 19 year old female who is considering getting the lapBand. I've done all the research possible and i'm really nervous about it. Is there anyone who has already had the surgery? If so can you please help me understand what it is like after the LapBand. Thank you, C-lo:confused2:

If you don't mind I would like to know everything. What helped you make your decision? How was your recovery after the lap band? I meet with my surgeon on Monday. Did you have some anxiety going through the process?

Thanks,

C-LO :o

Hundreds here who have already had the surgery.

I didn't really need help making my decision. A few years of saying, "If I'm not at X weight by this time next year, I will consider surgery" was enough.

Recovery was easy. Abdominal pain with abdominal movement, but that was it. No gas, etc. My surgery was a Wed. I went to the store Fri b/c I was tired of sitting at home. Went out of town Sat. Pretty much back to normal Sun.

hey! i got the surgery done when i was 19, and it was the best choice i have ever made. i will admit, there will be hard days and REALLY hard days but it is worth it. just one piece of advice....make sure you are ready mentally and emotionally before you get this done. people will be watching you and if you stop losing weight for a week they will be asking why you stopped and some may even make you feel bad cause your not losing it fast enough- and you need to be cinfident enough in yourself to make sure you dont let people get you down.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
