boston support mtgs?

Recommended Posts

hi,

i'm new to the site. was banded in boston at b&W on 12/13/07. the brigham offers a support group on the second tuesday of each month. so far i have been unable to make either. having only one option per month is difficult - if the date doesn't work, you wait another month, if it doesn't work again you wait two, and so on.

i got straight in 12 step groups many years ago, and while i don't go to meetings anymore, i did like the person to person contact/support. i'm 53 and maybe too old to have jumped on the this kind of format.

are there any people out there in boston area who would like to set up an independent support group (not 12-step, we could create our own)? i would be willing to work with some people to find a small hall (churches, hospital, etc.) we could rent for a weekly or rotating meeting. and then we could come up with a loose format, and what goes and doesn't, being pretty flexible.

i am asking for two reasons: 1.) i'm not good at the chat format, and 2.) much to my chagrin, the behavioral part of recovery has been very difficult without support. i've recently started eating ice cream after my second fill and clearly that'sa not a good development, and i'm eating takeout again, not as much volume 'cause i can't but bad food nonetheless.

if this rings a bell with anyone, please respond, and let's support each other to make this thing work.

maybe something like this exists in boston that i'm not aware of. if it does i'd like to know.

will appreciate any help/feedback.

thanks,

dannyfitz

Danny, does your doctors office offer support meetings? I know my doctor has supports twice a week. I'm just at the beginning stages of LB. Maybe OA meeting may help you. Good luck, gayle

I had my surgery at Salem Hospital and they have meetings on the 4th Monday of each month. I know it is still only once a month but Monday's might be more convient for you.

Hi Danny- I too was banded at B & W's hopsital and havent been to a support mtg yet bc I havent been able to be IN Boston by 6pm. I would like to at some point go and see what it all about and meet other folks

Some posters here (SherryW) have started a 'local' support mtgs on in Taunton, MA. We had one mtg so far on a Saturday afternoon.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
