Pschy. Eval do you tell the whole truth?

Recommended Posts

I was reading the post about flunking the shrink eval, and I was wondering if everyone told the WHOLE story. I don't plan to, I"ve been through a world of s*** but I don't think he needs to know that. I'm sticking to fat topics only! I know what makes me fat, I eat too much and I"m NEVER full! So do you tell the whole truth during your eval and risk flunking?

My psych eval was done by a friend of my surgeons. Which I think helped tremendously. I answered his questions truthfully, but did not offer more information than he requested. God only knows I could be a mental head case with my Childhood and early adulthood. But I have never thought of it that way. psychs are trained to percieve everything the look in your eyes when you talk, your mannerisms, to check if you have nervous characteristics, watches your body language possibly to check if your lying or telling the whole truth. They pay close attention to your confidence levels when you answer questions. I believe that that is probably 60% if not more important to "pass" the whole psych eval. I am either a really good liar (in body language) or I really believed the answers I gave. Either way, he thought I was healthy enough to have the surgery and succeed.

Hi, I went and it was just a chat. Mostly he wanted to know if you were stable enough to go through the procedure.

He wanted to know if you were educated about it, asked if I had ever thought about suicide? If I was ever abused as a child or adult. That was the basic questions, then he brought up on the computer the model of band and asked if I investigated before coming to him . I said yes and it was over. He shook my hand, said good bye .

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
