Member of the Banded Gentry (finally)

Recommended Posts

Ta-da! I am now a proud member of the Banded Gentry. Everything went really well yesterday. I stayed an extra night because of my asthma, but everything went just super.

If anyone has the chance, I highly recomend the facility I used in Kirkland WA. Had a very interesting chat with my surgeon, because I have no support group in the land of my exile. He said that more and more RnY patients are needed the band in addition to their replumming. He also said to not bother with the support groups for that style, that it wouldn't be worth my time.

oh, and they all thought my idea that I do all those crunches was a good idea...

I spent the entire day Sunday on valium, which helped. What didn't help was cracking my crown (tooth) in half eating popcorn... I still need to get it fixed, but since I'm not eating anything... well, nothing to get stuck....

I've been on lots of narcotics for the pain, because it does get what's the euphimisim??? oh yes, "discomfort..." Actually, much easier and better than when I had my gall bladder out. I'm actually only taking about 1/2 the pain killers as prescribed.

I've been doing some nice walking, and went shopping at trader joes this afternoon for some broth and teas.

So far, just a little gas, but no gas pains. tummy itches, but I suppose that is to be expeted. sleeping a lot, listening to music a lot, and drawing a little bit.

The hospital we use is really terrific! I've seen more than my fair share of hospitals lately because of my asthma too... The room had an extra bed built in, so family could have stayed with me if they wanted. And my DH brought in several of my boy-ohs in for a nice visit.

I have the #10 band from Inamed, the same as my DH. It was pretty funny, the patient coordinator didn't realized that my DH was MY DH until the next morning. She kept missing him...

My port is just to above and to the right of my belly button. He said they have less trouble finding the port there, and there is less trouble with flipping and such. Apperently the South American dr.s like to place it at the rib line and the EU dr.s like to place it on the sternum. The sternum would be a TERRIBLE place, as far as I'm concerned!

Again, I cannot thank all y'all enough for your kindness on this board!

Good, Good, Good Vinesqueen!!! Glad you got it over with. Yes, I also read in WLS magazine that people with by-pass surgery are now getting bands as they are gaining the weight back and the band takes it off again and keeps it off (interesting).

Vinesqueen,

Thank you for sharing your experience. I have not yet received my band, but I am working on it VERY hard! I went for my first series of tests yesterday! YIPPEE... Your experience is showing me that the recovery wont be as bad as I thought....I know everyones experience is diffrent and everyone handles pain diffrently, but you sound like your in good shape!! Congrats on your band! I will be joining you all soon!!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
