hi everyone. i got banded this morning (woo hoo). and well everything went cool. surgery was at 9 and i was released by 2pm. i was just very swollen i guess from all the gas. i came home, rested, walked, rested walked. and after i slept for 2 hours i woke up and A LOT of the swelling has gone down, i dont think i even feel anymore gas pains. except i got this very sore shooting pain on my right side upper stomach area, its kinda diagonal inbetween my breast and my belly button. i thought they told me they were going to put the port in the middle right below my breasts, but i have no pain there. could this be my port on the right side? its very sore, and seems that the swelling is only on the right now.but its a sharp pains every few minutes, very hard to get out of bed. help it hurts. please share. thanks

im angry the surgeon or my dr. never came down to see how i was doing and to show me where the port was. he opperated and then just nurses took care of me. and the Dr. or nurse practitioner i've been working with for months never even came down to see how i was. i really cant stand her and this affrims my feelings. as soon as i do the first post opps with her, im finding someone new. ugg fustrated.

Welcome to bandland!!!!

That is too bad your surgeon and his staff were so alloof. Kind of makes you feel like just another $$$ and that was all that mattered!

Be sure to get your rest, but walk lots, and keep sipping! Sounds like you are doing great! Hard to say where your port is, they put them all over!!! It could be the gas causing the pain and residual swelling.....no way to know at this point---where are your incisions?? That should give you a general idea....

Hope your recovery continues to be easy and pain free!!

Kat

congrats on your surgery, sounds like you're doing great, believe it or not!! the port is usually behind the largest incision, if you can tell which one that is...

Hello. This is my first post. I was banded on 3/6/08 and I keep looking at my incisions wondering which one hides the port... like Lets Make a Deal... is it behind Door #1, Door #2 or Door #3? I have my 10 day post-op on Monday, so guess I'll find out then. Of course I fear that it came unstiched, or that the doctor forgot to put it in. Just anxious, I know!

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
