Recommended Posts

Does anyone know why we have to lose 8 to 10 pounds before the surgery? If you do not lose it will they not do the surgery? I am having a hard time losing the weight and my surgery is next wed. Help!:confused2:

at my seminar they explained that you need to lose that weight because otherwise the liver gets too heavy and they have a hard time holding the liver away from the stomach. If your surgery is wednesday, start an all liquid diet now...you'll be down by wednesday!

Hi, My DR told me to go on an all liquid (optifast) diet for two weeks prior to the surgery. He said that if I shrank the liver the surgery would be quicker and then my recovery would be easier.

So I have been on this all liquid, very low cal diet. My surgery is next week on Tuesday and I've lost 20pds. My hope is when the Dr looks in me, he will see a small liver!!!!!!!!!!

Do you drink soda? for me that's what did it! i only drank one a day, a regular pepsi, I gave it up cold turkey and within a week i had lost 6 lbs by just cutting out the one pepsi! plus you really can't have it once your banded so you might as well try to get rid of that now! I had to lose 10 lbs for my surgery so then for the other 4 lbs I stopped snacking, ate meals at the same time everyday and Water, water, water!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
