I am having my surgery on April 1 and my 21yr old daughter found out she has ecoli. Not sure how she got it since she had just urinary track infection syptoms. I am concerned going to surgery if this could be dangerous if I had the bug in my system.

Discuss your concern with your Surgeon. Maybe there are some blood tests to check for you. Good luck!

E Coli is always present in your system in your (sorry) fecal matter. Ecoli urinary tract infections (uti's) occur when (mainly)females wipe from back to front, instead of front to back. When the E Coli in your stool contamintates your urinary tract, a nasty infection results. It is not contagous! She will prob be on antibiotics for a few days, and should be fine.

I am assuming she has an E coli uti- not the E Coli 0157 toxic bug from uncooked meat. If that is the case, YOU shouldn't be effected by it, with the exception that it is your daughter.

Her infection , although not fun, as I have had them during both my pregnancies, will clear up with treatment, and should not effect your surgery.

Last bit of advice for all- Wash Your Hands! The urinary tract is not the only thing that gets contamintated if you get certain "matter" on your hands, and they arent washed! - Sorry for the graphics- Not a germaphobe, I just see alot in the hospital I work in!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
