My insurance will not pay for PS

Recommended Posts

Found out today that my insurance will not cover PS. Who else has paid out of pocket and how much? What procedures did you have done?

Geesh Julie I'm sorry to hear the insurance won't pay. I went to one consult a few months ago at a very nice facility and they wanted $10,000 that included everything. My sister had hers done in Mpls and they charged her $6,000 so I thought that he was a bit high.

Hi Steph, what did the $10k include? Was it outpatient? Mine wanted me in overnight for a TT and BA but it looks like it may have to be outpatient now. Let me know. What did the $6k include?

Julie,

I found out last week that my insurance will cover the pannectomy (sp). I went to see my PS today (she's the one who submitted to my insurance co.). I was very disappointed. The pannectomy will cost me nothing. But, if I want the muscles tightened and the upper abdomen done it will cost an additional $7400. To have the incision go around a bit in back so as not to have any dog ears, It will cost an additional $9,200. To have the 180 degree lower body lift will be an additional $11,900. These prices would include hospital and everything. That seems awfully high if my insurance is paying for all hospital costs. I live in the Seattle, Wa. area.

I am having to think hard about which surgery to have.

Cheryl

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
