Hi, First posting-surgery sched. 3/25/08

Recommended Posts

:ohmy:Hello Everyone! I have never posted on any board before, but I am pretty uneducated about this whole thing. I did all my pre-op testing last May and I am finally scheduled for March 25, 2008. I am a bit nervous as I had a very bad last surgical experience delivering my twins in July 2005.

I don't know why I did not anticipate doing liquid before the surgery and I have to. I am not doing too well as I guess I am not having the right attitude. I understand about the liver needing to shrink. I think I had some stupid idea that I had 2 weeks left to eat. Again, I know it is not the right thinking...

So, any advice, suggestions, are welcome. I am 41 and have a 4 1/2 year old daughter and twin boys who are 2 1/2.

Thanks to all and good luck to all of you as well!

Sincerely,

Kristin :smile2:

Welcome and congratulations on your upcoming surgery. If you're finding it hard to stick to the pre-op diet, call your surgeon's office. Sometimes they give you one or two foods to have in moderation that make all the difference. Read a lot of posts here and ask questions. We look forward to having you.

Hi Kristen and welcome,

The preop diet does help to shrink the liver and an added benefit is the weight starts to come off sooner. I had a low calorie, low fat diet to follow instead of the liquid one, I wish I had the liquid one becasue I would probably have another ten pounds off by now.

Don't worry you'll eat real food again. It will take a few weeks to a month but you'll really start to enjoy food again.

Congratulations on your surgery date!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
