Hi Corgi!

I eat popcorn VERY often. Im like Betty, it goes down too easy for me as well. I dont buy any particular brand or kind, just the ones that I can microwave.

A friend recently cautioned me about eating popcorn while trying to diet, saying that it was one of the foods that caused you to crave other carbs.

I still love it though! ;)

Our Doc said only to eat Hulless popcorn. Which there are wonderful websites for or you may be able to find it at the local specialty store. Something about the hulls on the kernels may cause a problem so it is better to avoid them.

I get O-KE-DOKE corn puffs for my 3 year old. It is made by jays and looks and smells just like popcorn. It taste like popcorn with out the haard middle, it has 11g of fat per 2 1/2 cup serving and 18 carbs, 2g Protein. Our family really likes it. If it is not available in your area the bag says you can send Jays by mail or request a catalog at 1-888-529-7937. ~Mandy

Corgi,

Everyone is different, but I eat popcorn 4-5 times a week. I share a bag in the evening with my children. I like the Orville Redenbacher 94% FF which has 110 a serving. I also by the Healthy Pop Popcorn that has 90 calories a serving. They have caramel apple flavor as well which is sweetened with Splenda. Personally, I could not live without my popcorn. It also has a lot of Fiber and helps with pooping!!!

I'm a bad, bad bandster! My son eats popcorn almost every night. His favorite is the Orville R. pour over butter. We always have some on hand. I'm sure it's lard by the handful, but I eat it with him whenever I feel like it, and I don't have any problem getting it down. I do eat a whole lot less than I used to, but still... I just can't get myself to enjoy air popped or the low fat/ff kind. If thats all there is, I just don't eat it...HEY there's an idea! Now... how to get my son to comply...

This is the one way this board did NOT help me: I learned from the board that popcorn goes down easy. It's true, and once I discovered that it's been popcorn heaven for me. And I'm not talking about the healthy stuff. Prior to reading that on this board, I just assumed that like bread and other such items, it would get stuck so I hadn't tried it. I will give myself a little credit and say that I do use only the snack bags.

This just made me laugh out loud, Pam. If I'd been drinking there'd be liquid all over my monitor. ;)

But you make a very good point. I don't eat just for the physical motions of eating anymore (well, most of the time I don't). If the food isn't really good, I don't bother. And air-popped popcorn just isn't worth bothering for. Give me the real thing every time.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
