Surgery Scheduled - Misc. Questions

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone! I finally have a surgery date for March 26, 2008!! Yippee!!

I have a few questions:

I sleep on my stomach, will this be a problem with my port?

Anyone else tan? Wondering if I will have to stop for a while after my surgery?

I'm excited and nervous and glad to be finally moving forward!!

Thanks for any input.

Carol

I could not sleep on my stomach for about the first week, after that it was fine. Might depend on where and how your port is placed.

good Luck with surgery.

Welcome and congratulations on the upcoming surgery. I could only sleep on my back for the first week or so. Surgeons usually advise not tanning during healing as it can cause hyperpigmentation of the scar tissue.

The port sight is the sorest of the whole surgery process and the discomfort there lasts the longest. I had trouble finding a comfortable sleep position for the first week or so (I'm a side sleeper) I slept in a recliner for the first 3 nights, then started doing some funky stuff propping pillows all around me to get comfortable. You probably won't be able to sleep on your stomach right off the bat but it will go quickly and with some 'revisions' you can probably figure something out soon.

I am a tummy only sleeper... with some care (and a little discomfort)... I slept in my bed, on my tummy from day 1. Hope it goes so well for you too.

Hi. My name is Paula and I just had Lap Band on March 4th. I am also a stomach sleeper, but it was the 4th night before I could sleep on my stomach.

I am excited to keep reading others successes, as I am only on day 10.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
