Question when food get stuck??

Recommended Posts

I am 6 weeks banded and due to have first fill on the 24th. I have had some foods get stuck and ouch it hurts but it never comes back up - I get this slimy stuff that I will spit out but the food eventually goes down.

How come it does not come back up and what is with the slimes??

Lauren

That's called a PB (a productive burp.) You might be eating too fast or taking too large of bites. There's a lot about PBs on this board if you just type that in under the Search feature.

The slime is normal, and usually the food that was stuck will come up after the slime. PBs can be very painful, plus they aren't healthy for the band. Some doctors want you to do liquids and/or mushie foods for a couple days after a PB.

This subject is going to give you a lot of responses, so I'll stop here till others see the question. Good luck.

I can feel your pain! Saterday night I had a piece of dry fish get stuck and I slimed for an HOUR. I rushed home and got on the chat and was asking for help because I had not had that happen to me before.

I chew chew chew and chew some more now. I don't ever want to have that happen to me again!

I was just filled Friday and really had no restriction prior to the fill.

Take it slow.

That slime is basically your body knowing something is stuck and trying to get it to go through. Unfortunately if food is stuck, the slime has no where to go, so it comes back up. Some of us refer to that as sliming, while the PB is when the actual food comes up. But sometimes I'll slime too and the food decides to go down instead of up.

Either way, when that happens you should go to soft foods for a meal or two, because your stoma is irritated and may be swollen.

The slime is actually the product our bodies produce during the natural process of peristalsis, which is the action of the esophagus to aid in digestion of food. Fun stuff, huh!
