Can't give up COFFEE!

Recommended Posts

Ok my doc says no caffeine. I thought I could do it but three weeks post op and I finding this very difficult. Most mornings I am ok but occasionally I would fall asleep driving without my cup of coffee.

Doc says it dilates my espohagus, any suggestions or thoughts on this.

I certainly don't want it to lead to pouch stretching!

I never gave up coffee. Don't recall my surgeon saying it was necessary. I would go by your surgeon's recommendations though.

I don't know if I will be able to give up coffee. I know I can cut back on it but I just love a cup in the morning. My dr. says to cut out caffeine for six weeks after surgery. So many drs., so many different opinions!

I was told it's a gastric stimulant....would speed up digestion and make you hungrey sooner. I drink it anyway. I need it to support my quaility of life! But I have been slowly cutting down the ratio of caffeinated to Decaf. I'm mostly decaf now but still have the real stuff a couple times a week.

My Bariatric Center's instructions never mentioned giving up coffee and I must admit that I never did! Egads, how traumatic!! :grouphug:

My doc didn't require me to give up coffee - I drink one or 2 cups every morning and during the summer I drink ice tea - in fact since i can't have a diet coke anymore and when I feel the need for some caffine - I will have some ice tea in the afternoons. There is no way I could give it up - I get up at 5 a.m I need my caffiene....

I was a two pot a day kind of girl.....and I am now ONE MONTH totally caffeine free....I didn't think I could do it, but I did.....and you know what....

I feel better...really, I do. The first week was brutal....dull constant headache was horrible.

Now, it's a couple of cups of yummy herbal tea in the morning......one in the evening and life is good.

My doc said I absolutely had to give it up............so I just gutted through it!

I wish I had a suggestion to make it easier, but I don't.....seriously though, if you're falling asleep driving....you need more sleep, not more caffeine....hope you can do that!!

I'll be thinking about you and know that you CAN do it......::hugs::

You could try getting more sleep -- not trying to be smart here. I gave up caffeine about 5 years ago on doctors orders, it took about 3 months before my body adjusted, now I am actually much better physically and more alert than I ever was on caffeine, but it takes time

I might die if I can't go to Starbucks.....

Do you really want to be addicted to something that makes you want to die if you can't get it? :smile2:

Laugh all you want, its a NEED, not a want! Believe me, I don't WANT to spend $30 a week at Starbucks! They MAKE me, its an addiction, its like CRACK or HEROIN! They are EVIL but resistance is futile!!:):banghead:

My doc said coffee can be harsh on the stomach, he recommends quitting, but did not say I -have- to give it up. I have one travel mug's worth per day, I sip it on the way to work. Sometimes now, post-op, I can't even finish it.

I gave up the diet-soda with no arguments, but decided to keep on the coffee and would give it up if it bothered me. So far, so good. Tomorrow is 4 weeks post-op.

Denise

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
